Hello, I am a student at a High School in Washington State. In my chemistry class we are currently doing research paper on a manufactured product. I wanted to know why Kaolin is used in medication and also in other products such as dishwear? What are the medical uses of kaolin? Is it safe to use? How can it become a medication or a product to produce a container? Thank you for your time. ## Hello, Nancy! How are you? Good luck on your project! There are actually many substances that are used in foods, medicines, and other things we ingest, as well as being used in non-edible products, so this isn't the only one. Kaolin is basically a type of clay that is essential to the manufacture of china and porcelain. However, in people, it is used to treat diarrhea and cholera. It can also be ...

Generic Adderall XR manufactured by Actavis is not the same formulation as was used by Shire/Teva. The efficacy of the drug does not exist in Actavis' version. I plan on filing a complaint with the manufacturer. I encourage others who are not receiving the expected results with Actavis' product to do the same. Be sure call your pharmacy and get the lot number of your capsules. Luckily, I am a chemist who has access to analytical equipment that will help me identify and quantitate this medication. I am unsure if it is indeed amphetamine salts and will not take my prescription. I want to know what I am putting in my body. Until this mystery is solved, I will paying for Brand. ## I'm afraid that you won't actually have a legitimate complaint against the manufacturer. There ...

My Dad, who had a PhD in Chemistry, used to use a brownish solution on me whenever I contracted poison ivy. I don't know exactly what it was, but he mixed (and stored) it in a semi-clear poly bottle and he had marked it (as best I can recall) FeS04. In addition to the iron odor, it seemed to have an alcohol odor as well. Whatever it was it was exceptionally effective at drying up and eliminating the rash from poison ivy. It left a noticeable yellow-brown stain on the skin, but it was easily washed off after treatment. Don't know if this was an old "Chem lab" cure, a home remedy, or what. Sure would like to know though. Can anyone help? ## FeSO4 is just the chemical formula for Iron(II) Sulfate, it sounds like he may just have been mixing it with alcohol. Have you tried a...

I found a small round blue pill in my grandmother's dresser she had recently passed away...and have no idea what it is and it has no code markings, its just a small thin blue pill scored with 40appearing on the underside of the score. ## I am very sorry for your loss. As to the pill, however, I am not finding anything, but that may be due to it being a foreign medication. Have you tried asking a local pharmacist/chemist? They would be the best person to help, they may even have a listing of her prescriptions that could help narrow it down. ## Thanks Verwon , no there are no other markings on the pill just the 40 on the underside of the score, I can't seem to find this in any database , but it was prescribed to her so I don't know why that is.Anyways thanks for your help,does...

my wife has nerve damage in her cervical, lumbar, and sacrial areas of her spine. her doc. has been trying to find a med that will relieve her pain. most of them are opiates. lortab, 25mcg patch, gabapentin. she is highly allergic to thoridal(sp?) and most anti-inflamitories. the doc is doing 2 week trials so it is easy to assume that when she keeps coming in with a different script that somthing is shady. her body chemistry is odd and meds do not have ordinary effects on her. example, morphine has zero effect on her. now she is trying to fill a a legal script for dilaudid and the walgreens said she does not fit an undiscribed criteria and wont fill the script because the dosage is too high. this failure to meet the criteria will result in her not being able to submit that prescription ...

Is sporidex effective for treating UTI in children? ## Based on my research, Sporidex (Cephalexin) is said to be an antibiotic with a well tolerated side effect profile. Although it is commonly used for urinary-tract infections, I haven't found any claims stating "how safe or effective" it may be for small children under a certain age. I suppose this answer could be different for everyone of any age though, since body chemistry and biological age varies so greatly on a personal basis. You can learn more about this drug on the page for Cephalexin Details Was this medication prescribed by your child's physician?

Whats the difference if any...is one better than the other. Two pharmacies in town and same price but different brands...??? ## The truth is that each individual may react or respond differently to each and every brand/generic out there. One of the reasons is because there are different binders and fillers. The other is likely due to differences within our own body chemistry, metabolism, age, weight, and a number of other personal factors. That said, finding the appropriate manufacturer may just be a game of trial and error, because even if one person responds favorably to Mallinckrodt (for example), you may respond more favorably to Wilshire. My point is that it all comes down to personal preference in the end. And the only way to build a true personal preference among all the options ...

Given to me by Pharmacy 12 December. My usual Enalapril Maleate Ta 10mg (ACE) pill is a light salmon coloured triangular shaped pill. I fear I have been given wrong medication. Shall go back to the chemists. ## Hello, Annie! How are you? This is a generic medication, which means it's manufactured by quite a few different companies, so your pharmacy most likely just provided you with a different one that you used to receive. But yes, please check with them to be sure if you're worried. Are there any markings on the tablet?
