i have a lower back pinched nerve and would like to know if acupncture can help ## There is really no way to say, whether or not Acupuncture will help you. Some people get great results and swear by it, while others have been disappointed. The effect that anything has on anyone is completely individualized. Have you discussed it with your doctor? If you have a pinched nerve, you do have to be careful and make sure that you only go to a fully trained and knowledgeable practitioner. Someone who isn't could insert needles in the wrong places, which could aggravate your condition or make it worse.

Been having treatment and acupuncture and nothing so far seems to help. There are times pain grabs me and almost puts me to the floor. I've been using patches on the area and at times do get some relief but it interferes with my walking as well. Is there anything I can do to get rid of it? I do have arthritis. Thank you. ## I'm looking for something to fix the same thing...after driving for 10 minutes I get pain in the right side of my butt. Let me know if you find something to help. ## Hello Crafty Lady, I would love to give you some non medicinal ideas as to what you might be able to try to relieve the pain. First you can heat and ice the painful areas, which I am assuming is what the patches you are referring to are for. It is also extremely beneficial to do stretches that ta...

I have had 4 steroid injections for sciatic back pain with no relief. I have tried acupuncture to no avail and am now trying the Hydrocodone but am concerned it may be addictive. What signs should I be aware of when taking this medication every day? ## Hello, Maxine! How are you? Yes, the FDA classifies this medication as a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. I think it will best help you, if I explain how/why addiction happens. Narcotics can cause a high feeling and energy, in some people that take them, but since those are just side effects, these symptoms eventually wear off, as their bodies become used to the medication. Thus, they have to keep taking more an mo...

I have been a smoker for 54 years and have tried everything over the counter to stop smoking including acupuncture. Nothing worked for me. I realize you have to be committed to quit and I really was this time. My last cigarette was May 17th with Chantix. There have been no ill effects so far and I don't expect any. At times I still have cravings but I keep telling myself "you've come this far, don't go back now." I will be 72 next month and the best gift I can give myself as well as my family is to never smoke again!! ## Congratulations, Gram! That is so awesome!!! Seniors can be more sensitive to the side effects of medications and may experience them more intensely, as reported by the FDA, so if you do start to experience any adverse effects, including depression o...

My husband has post herpetic neuralgia and has tried all medications (like Lyrica, Gabapentin, Nucleo CMP, laser treatment, acupuncture). For the past 5 years, the pain has been managed but lately his pain is back and more intense. He does not want to depend on these medicines anymore because of its side effects. Is there someone who can recommend an alternative? He is 60 years old. ## He might try gallium maltolate skin cream, which many people with postherpetic neuralgia say has helped relieve their pain. I am 22 and have had depression for as long as I can remember. After many failed attempts of "natural" methods (medicine, acupuncture, neurofeedback) I went to a psychiatrist and am now taking Lithium carbonate 300mg for a week. So far I don't feel any difference. I've been reading other people's experiences and they at least report minor side effects for the first few days or week like being sleepy or losing train of thought. I haven't felt a thing. I know my depression is deep and I might need a bigger dose, but shouldn't I have at least felt SOMETHING by now? Thanks in advance ## Dear Nikinice, my dad suffered from severe depression and after trying a bunch of meds, they put him on lithium. I was on 75 for over 9 years with still getting pain even with changing patch everyother day yeah know it's a three day patch. May of this year started with acupuncture dr three times a week. Started weaning self off the drug by delaying the changing of the patch. It is now August and happy to say since middle of July done with fentanyl. Yes still have pain but trying to just take two Tylenol or a percoset one if really can't stand it, I change positions more when sitting, walk as much as possible ## Sounds like you're doing everything right! :-) In many cases, people that suffer from chronic pain get very sedentary, not realizing that it actually makes their pain much worse, because joints stiffen and unused muscles begin to atrophy. Getting more exercise can greatly improv...

Have spinal stenosis. Also diabetes. Some neuropathy. Had 2 epidurals and physical therapy which helped decrease pain in legs to a bearable level. Had 3 acupuncture treatments. Thought helped after 1st one but after 2nd and 3rd legs hurt more so I didn't go back. Doctor put me on Gabapentin which helps the neuropathy. One day legs started feeling like they weigh 50 pounds each which has affected my balance tremendously. So now I am wondering if possibly caused by Gabapentin. Anyone else on it with heavy legs? ## I take 2700 mg a day of Gabapentin. I'm 71. I also have cervical spinal stenosis, diabetes 2 and lots of arthritis. Also take 300 mg of tramadol a day and a number of other drugs for psychiatric reasons as well as drugs for blood pressure and cholesterol. I even drink a ...

I have been taking this for almost 2 years. I started because of a major back injury in October 2010-my twin daughters were almost a year old, and have since discovered acupuncture-which is wonderful! I want to stop taking the Norco(I was prescribed 10 mg 4 times daily and took it all up until about 4 months ago when I began cutting it down to 3 a day). At the birth date of my girls I weighed 213-I had gained only 50 pounds, after I got hurt and started taking the Norco, I slowly gained weight until I was up to 218 lbs a couple of months ago. Now I weigh 205 after having started the acupuncture and changing my diet. I feel slovenly and like I am a slave to this drug-physically speaking. I still have major pain but am just sick of taking these things. I want to get off of these pills and...

Have Vicoden 350mg, if I take it on a regular basis I itch then have to take a shot of benadryl. I'm 71 and would like part of my life back. Is there anything that will help? ## Hello, Lyn! How are you? I'm very sorry that you're in so much pain. Has your doctor made any other suggestions? There are other options you could try, such as Oxycontin, Oxycodone regular release or Dilaudid. Can someone tell me what medicine they take for sciatic nerve, hip hurts and lower back. I already take norco but this not helping me. ## Hi Deborah, May I ask what treatment options you've already undergone? (i.e. surgery, acupuncture, natural alternatives, heat/ice treatment, chiropractic manipulation, massage therapy, light physical exercise (yoga), eating more plant-based foods etc). I would normally suggest taking advantage of those options before relying on prescription narcotics; mainly because things like yoga and natural alternatives can be done throughout your life without necessarily being dependent on your doctor. I hope this advice helps! ## What alleviates the pain can vary from person to person, so the only way to find out what works for you is by trying different med...

I have an extremely painful oral Neuropathy of 3 cranial nerves for three years. I have had to travel out of state to see Specialists in both Oral Facial Pain and Neurology. There is no cure for this problem. Have tried acupuncture and Homeopathy without any improvement. The only thing that can be done is efforts at reducing the neurologic pain, the pain cannot be stopped. I take an antiseizure med Gabapentin (Neurontin) and also brand Valium 5 mg. every 12 hours. While I have health insurance, I have been paying outrageous Copays for Brand Valium. So at my request, the physician wrote for the Generic Diazepam. The pharmacy issued me TEVA, 5 mg. generic valium (Diazepam). Within 48 hours, or before, of switching to generic valium, the Nerve Pain had increased to unbearable levels and be...

At age 30, my life was "normal." A good job, a few friends, and I was able to take care of myself. Suit and tie at work and afterwards: ran, hit the gym, or Tae Kwon Do class. I fought anxiety, OCD, and depression all of my life. Tried every OTC supplement, yoga, acupuncture, etc. and nothing helped, except alcohol gave me temporary relief on the weekends. Anyway, I Entered a mental health facility two decades ago and my life quickly became so much worse I found myself in a hole so deep that now, two decades later, I barely function at all. Initially, the anxiety and OCD were replaced by a depression so dark, that I started to long for it to be over every day. My dreams were horrid. When the mental depression seemed to lose some of its steam, I started to develop severe physical...

Is there a pill that when you take it you would vomit if you smoked a cigarette? ## I don't believe there is a pill that makes you vomit after smoking (although that would be a great invention in my opinion for those searching for a way out). Based on experiences of friends of mine, I have heard that acupuncture is one of the more effective ways to quit the craving to smoke. They tell me it works instantly, and I have no reason to not believe them since they have been smoking pretty much their entire life (20+ years). I think it wouldn't hurt much to give it a try if you or anyone else you may be referring to is seeking an effective alternative to quit. Although I don't know the exact cost of it, it would be a lot cheaper than continuing to purchase a pack of cigs every so o...

I really want to start my story with my main concern in case anyone doesn't have time or interest to read the whole thing. So I've suffered now for eleven years, have had 5 surgeries, PT, many many inj's., multiple doctors and opinions, had a very high stress and crazy physical job, acupuncture, have tried so many medications. I had a good pain doctor years ago that left and my family doctor of two decades took pity on me and by this point I had a psychiatrist that helped me for two months while he decided if he was comfortable with what I needed. Five years later I was no longer getting relief from 6 Perc 10's and he wasn't comfortable adding anything else so I found a new pain doctor close to me and was very anxious about it but he ended up being pretty good; but h...

Can anyone help with a cure, or reason why I get headaches? Mainly come on in the early hours, just before I get up. They usually drift away, If I get up before they set in, otherwise they linger all blooming day, sometimes last into the next day. I have tried many different pills, and potions. Bachs Floewer remedy, Tens machine, Acupuncture, Senn a Psycologist, had a brain scan (yes they found one before you ask) A neurologist put it down to muscle tension headaches, now all I can do is just live with it. I can't believe I have to live the rest of my life waking up every morning with a headache. It has cost me friends, jobs, and even my marriage. Sleep apnea has been ruled out. But, the latest pill Pregablin looks like it may be working, after a week of taking them. Has anyone ever...

I have had two surgeries on my knee. The last surgery had left me with nerve pain in my knee that runs up and down my leg. I have gone to too many doctors to count and have tried everything they have prescribed for me (from stretching to acupuncture to taking Gabapentin and thing like it) but nothing helps except 10mg oxycodone. The pain is horrible and sometimes the pain will last for weeks. I can't concentrate in school or even sleep. The only thing that has helped is the oxycodone but I'm 24 years old and no doctor want to prescribe it to me because they think I'm to young. Does anyone know if a doctor in San bernardino area that will help me?? Being in severe pain and not sleeping for days at a time is making me go crazy! ## Nerve pain is treated really well with Lyrica....
