What is the max. dosage of Acetaminophen contained in Butalbital that is safe for a 70+ male in good condition take / day for migraines? ## Hello, John! How are you? The current maximum daily amount of Acetaminophen according to FDA regulations is no more than 3,000mgs. Taking too much in any 24 hour period risks liver damage, liver failure and toxic overdose, which may be fatal. What has your doctor prescribed? You shouldn't exceed the amount they instruct you to take. The typical side effects of this medication may possibly include nausea, dizziness, headache and stomach upset.

I just want to know that what the recommended or prescribed amount of Crocin is that a person can have in a day? ## According to my resources, Crocin contains the active ingredient Acetaminophen, though I am not certain what dosage you have. However, the maximum safe dosage in 24 hours is 4,000mg - For instance, this would be 8 of the 500mg tablets in any 24 hour period. If you exceed that amount, it is toxic and can be fatal. Has your doctor made any recommendation? ## These details are given at the back of Crocin tablets strip, and written on it, so check it in on the strip. ## Can it be used to reduce knee pain? I am 43 years old. ## What are the risks associated with taking too much of this medication? ## Can I take this medication for a fever/cold? I am 43 years old and vegetarian.

M375 on one side oblong split on the other ## Hello, Freda! How are you? Did you mean M 357? If so, this tablet was manufactured by Mallinckrodt Pharmaceuticals and they list it as containing 5mgs of Hydrocodone and 500mgs of Acetaminophen, it is a dosage that is no longer available, since the maximum dose of Acetaminophen in them now has been lowered to no more than 325mgs. The FDA classifies this medication as being a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation.

I have had several pain intensive surgeries followed by Dr. prescrptions of Vicodin & Percocet on various occasions in the past. Each time I would have surplus meds (with dispose of dates listed on container) leftover after pain subsided. My question is do these meds have a shelf life where they become ineffective or worse, toxic? ## No, these types of medications do not become toxic, but they will start to lose effectiveness past the expiration date. There's no precise time frame to give, because it depends on storage conditions, but the one year date from the pharmacy is the maximum time they can be sure they'll remain fully effective. My wife will be taking hydrocodone acetaminophen 5 500 tb for the first time to help her get through her physical therapy. How long before the therapy starts should she take the pill to get maximum relief during the session. ## It's really difficult to say, because it takes 15 to 20 minutes for the regular release tablets like this to start being digested and enter someone's blood stream and then, of course, you want it to be working, before she goes in for the session to minimize the pain. I'd say she should take it at least half an hour before. Learn more Vicodin details here. However, I'm not a doctor, so I'd suggest she call hers and ask them, just to be certain. Additionally, like all analgesics, they really work better at preventing pain, rather than relieving ...

My daughter has been taking hydrocodone 5/325 every 4 hrs since Thurs afternoon. 24 hrs ago, her dr moved it to every 6 hrs, and she took her last one at 615pm last night (it's now 1250a). Can you switch to extra strength, OTC acetaminophen now (500mg tabs)? Or should we wait longer after her last hydrocodone dose? Please advise. Thank you! ## You can take up to 3000mg of acetaminophen in a 24hr period. Anymore than that should be under a doctor's care/advice. ## According to the FDA, their 'liver warning' goes by a maximum daily dosage of 4,000 mg within a 24-hour period. This is not to say that you shouldn't consult with your doctor first, but it should allow for substantial flexibility in your dosing. If you're currently taking 1300mgs a day (325mgs four times...

Can someone please explain the difference between Ibuprofen, Acetaminophen, and Tylenol? I’m already maxed out on maximum Ibuprofen at 1600 mg a day spread out 4xs a day and a (really low dose of Gabapentin 200 mg 3xs a day) for forearm pain. The Ibuprofen isn’t enough when the pain hits hard and fast despite having a high tolerance for pain. ## Acetaminophen (also known as paracetamol or APAP) is the same thing as Tylenol. Tylenol is just the retail "brand" name. It is not an NSAID. It can be hard on your liver but typically won't cause ulcers or bleeding. Ibuprofen (brand name Advil) IS an NSAID which can increase your risk of bleeding, raise blood pressure and increase the chance of cardiovascular ailments. Tylenol and Ibuprofen are safe to take together and c...

I have taken hydrocone/acetaminophen Tab 7.5 / 650 for several years for a back injury, I am 72 and it cant be fixed. They changed the law so now I get pink pill 7.5 / 325. My doctor assured me that I wouldn't tell the difference. Well I cant even tell I took one I take 3 a day. Something is not right. The one I was taking was M359. Would you please help. Thanks Max ## Hello, Caaseymax! How are you? Of course there's a difference and I don't know why your doctor wasn't upfront about it. The Acetaminophen augments the action of the narcotic, so a lower amount of Acetaminophen means it won't be as potent. You may want to ask your doctor about just taking some extra Acetaminophen with it, or perhaps switching to a different medication. This is a narcotic analgesic, so i...

How much of the red liquid hyrdrocodone 325\5 mg would equal to three 1,000s norcos? ## Each teaspoons equals hydrocodone 5 mg /acetaminaphen 325 mg. ## Hello, Ashley! How are you? What BL has stated is correct, unless the label specifies otherwise. As to the Norco you mentioned, there is no Norco available that contains 1,000mgs of anything. The maximum dosage currently available on the market contains 10mgs of Hydrocodone and 325mgs of Acetaminophen. Norco was actually the name brand for a lower dose of this analgesic combination, so if you were taking it, then you were most likely taking 5/325mgs. The FDA classifies this medication as being a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth an...

I WOULD LIKE TO KNOWTHE HIGHEST DOSAGES FOR HYDRCOCONE/ACETAMINOPHEN? ## The highest dosage that is currently available contains 10mgs of Hydrocodone and 750mgs of Acetaminophen. Learn more Vicodin details here. However, the amount of Acetaminophen in all of these combination products is being lowered, due to a request by the FDA, due to the risk of liver failure or damage that can be associated with long-term use and the danger of overdose toxicity. Some manufactures have already begun to implement the change and the rest are expected to have it completely by January of 2014… However, if you view the various posts on here, you'll discover that it's already getting very diff...

I have been taking 3 ibuprofen for jaw pain after having roots extracted for future implants. The dr had prescribed hydrocodone/acetaminophen 5-325, but I don't like the way it makes me feel. I was trying to cut back on pain meds after 4 days, so I took 2 of the ibuprofen instead of 3. It isn't helping, so can I add 1/2 of a hydrocodone pill or would it be better to take a 3rd ibuprofen pill? ## Scottie, If the hydrocodone was causing undesirable side effects taking an additional Ibuprophen would certainly not hurt. You may wish to take it with milk or something to coat your stomach .so long as you don't exceed the daily max.dose of any NSAID you will be fine.Hope you feel better soon,Kenie.

What is the correct daily dosage for severe arthritis? The E/R physician initially prescribed one or two tablets every 4 to six hours. My regular physician has changed the dosage to one tablet every four hours, but she did not specify the maximum number of tablets that could be taken in a 24 hour period. I really would appreciate having your guidance on this matter, as neither physician is 'reachable' at present. ## Hello, Bud! How are you doing? Sorry about the arthritis pain. And yes, your doctor did specify. One tablet every 4 hours means exactly that, she doesn't want you to take multiples and you should follow her prescribing instructions. The Acetaminophen in this risks liver damage or failure if taken in high amounts for a long period of time, thus it isn't safe t...

I was prescribed oxycodone acetaminophen 5-325 for pain; another doctor told me to take 1000 mg of acetaminophen for the same pain. Which is stronger? ## @Demetri, Oxycodone in and of itself is significantly stronger than Acetaminophen, so I'm not sure if there's any reliable or honest way to accurately compare the two, outside of trying each one for yourself at different times in the day and noticing the big difference in pain relief. I'm not a Dr. but I also wouldn't encourage anyone to take such a large dose of Acetaminophen on a regular basis. They narrowed down the max dose in meds to 325mg for a good reason (to do with decreasing one's risk for liver damage/failure). So my thoughts are, even if 1000mgs of Acetaminophen helped your pain momentarily, it would see...

Male 210lbs - takes whatever whenever, but is taking over a dozen hydrocodone-apap 10mg/325mg pills in 24 hours. Is that bad? What's bound to happen?...What if he takes oxycodone 15mg also? ## Hello, From what I am seeing, daily consumption of hydrocodone should not exceed 40 milligrams in patients not tolerant to opiates. The PDR from 2006 states that Norco 10, containing 10 milligrams of hydrocodone and 325 mg of APAP (Acetaminophen) can be taken at a dosage of up to twelve tablets per day (120 mg of hydrocodone). This restriction is only limited by the fact that twelve tablets, each containing 325 mg of APAP (Acetaminophen), puts the patient right below the 24-hour FDA maximum of 4,000 mg of APAP. Some specially compounded products are routinely given to chronic pain patients in ...

I would like to know long term effects. ## Yes, to have 15mgs of the Hydrocodone, this has to be something that is specially compounded, because it is only commercially available with a maximum of 10mgs of the Hydrocodone. Hydrocodone is a narcotic pain reliever, it is couple with the Acetaminophen to better relieve pain and swelling. Common side effects can include: nausea, drowsiness, dizziness and dry mouth. The Hydrocodon Acetaminophen 5-500 works fairly well but is there a strong one available? ## Hi Jack, The dosage of Acetaminophen in Vicodin range from 500mg, 660, and 750mgs. While for Hydrocodone the max dosages I've seen are 7.5mg and 10mg respectively. I believe "Vicodin HP" contains a dosage combination of 660mg + 10mg. The maximum dosage for this medication is 1-2 pills every 4-6 hours depending on severity of pain and that information changes with the max dosage allowable for Acetaminophen... which is not to exceed 1gram (1000mg) per dose/or 4 grams (4000mg) per day.
