Hello, Mickey! How are you?
Which is better can depend on the person. Some people do better with the regular release that takes about 15 to 20 minutes to start working, but not everyone stays asleep with it, so they may require the sustained release.
The FDA classifies this as a sedative hypnotic that is most commonly used for the short-term treatment of insomnia. Its typical side effects may possibly include nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, somnolence, hallucinations, funny taste in mouth, next day hangover-like effects and sleep actions.
What are the markings on the pills you have? If you can post back with this information, I can check to see which formulation they are.
