Yes There Are Generic Suboxone

there is a generic Suboxone out now. they begin shipping them to pharmacies the last week of February. also, if you have any type of insurance you will automatically get the generic suboxin. The doctor has no say in whether you get the name brand or generic really. even if he writes a prescription for suboxone, the pharmacist will automatically give you the generics if you have insurance. if you don't have any insurance, you can ask the pharmacist to give you generics because they are cheaper. Plus, R and B has stopped making the name brand suboxin pills. they are only making be films now. So whenever your pharmacy runs out of the original suboxin, there will not be any more.

Do you happen to know by any chance who the manufacturer is or what the new generic Suboxone is supposed to look like?

I came across a very brief article (shown below), stating the following:

"Actavis, Inc. has announced that it has received approval from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) on its Abbreviated New Drug Application (ANDA) for Buprenorphine HCl and Naloxone HCl Dihydrate SL Tablets, 2 mg/0.5 mg and 8 mg/2 mg, the generic equivalent to Reckitt Benckiser Healthcare's Suboxone."

yes, that information is correct. Actavis is 1 of the companies now producing a generic form of Suboxone. Amneal Pharmaceuticals is the other. I can tell you exactly what Amneals generic Suboxone looks like, as I am prescribed to it and I have one right in front of me! it is a round orange pill, with the imprint AN 415 on one side, and no imprint on the other. besides being round, the other difference I have noticed is that these pills are much, much harder. it is something that I happen to like because they don't break apart or crumble up as easily as the originals. Plus, I feel that they dissolve much better because of that too. they dissolve a little bit slower, but they don't turn into useless Suboxone flavored spit either. I feel they absorb a lot more efficiently because of that. the taste isn't nearly as bad as the original ones either. I have never seen the other generic suboxin, but I have heard from many people that it has a half moon imprint on one side and the numbers 155 on the other. they are a white round pill. I will try to upload a picture of my generic Suboxone.

I second the better absorbtion and they are a lot more solid which is good for the crumbling factor but bad cuz they are hard to half and quarter. Tried a pill cutter and it "shatters" to a few pieces. The taste is definitely a personal opinion. I don't like like the "new" orange flavor. It shouldn't even be called orange flavor and the pharmaceutical company says it has a pleasant orange taste but i beg to differ. I prefer the still yucky taste of original suboxone but thats all i prefer over the generic version. Strangely generic is the same color though. All in all I am so glad the FDA finally realized what RB was all about and it boiled down to profit in the end. I hope the new amneal version sweeps the market so it is made in the US and keeps the profit in the US. Lord knows we need it.

If they are making a generic suboxone it hasn't made it to my pharmacy.my insurance would pay for the generic before thr brand.i have not heard or seen any ..

I Am taking the strips not the pill form. that could be why I have not seen them or heard about them. I would rather have the film instead of the pill form. they dissolve faster than the pill form..

Hi.do you know if all cvs's have the white suboxone?ive been getting the generic orange,and I don't think they do as good,as the white ones!i live in ohio,ive tried a lot of pharmacies,and they just have name brand,or gen.orange.thanks

I have seen the 2 mg strips and they are labeled N2. They are made by different companies under the R B name and some of them are very very faint and the imprint is also. They have a different taste to them and work awfully. If you are not happy with the efficacy of the medicine talk to your Dr. I was very pleased with the pills and then was switched to the films and then they cut me down to 12 mgs daily. That's half of my dose. All in order to keep monthly. I have been sent to different pharmacies to get it filled and each store has always had a different looking film. I also have noticed that on the wrapper is a number 1 through 8. The higher the number the more bupenorphine. You can see it if you hold it up to a light. All the dark spots are the bupe. You can take my advice and if you sort out the films by number and add the numbers up and take the average. Then I sort them out and take the highest average doses each day so I can get a steady stream of medicine. An example is like I get about 18 films labeled 2 on the bottom and then a few 8 and 1 and such. I will take a 2 each day and then if I have a low number one I take the whole thing, if I have an 8 I will only take the one. I essentially try and get each day to have the number on the wrapper to be as close to 8 as possible. The medicine is not all going to be 8 mgs in every strip and the healthcare system does not tell you. If you are taking 8 mgs daily and get 28 for the month, of the 28 you are not going to get all 8mgs. You will get an assortment of strengths. That's why I am going to see about zubsolve tomorrow

Actually thats not true, my hubby gets the strips written out first b/c his insurance will only pay for those specifically & has to be pre-authorized & the generic would not even go through to be covered...once the pre-auth. goes through, he pays $10 co-pay but it depends on your whether u have insurance 7 a lot of factors based on which the doctor will prescribe, he has been going to same doctor for 4 years

Hello, I am tapering down on methadone so that I can hopefully switch to suboxone. I'm wondering is it harder to get the suboxone pills than the strips? I have insurance but they will only cover a generic equivalent. Is there a generic version of strips? Sorry so many questions. Also anyone know a good doctor reasonably priced anywhere from Lexington, Ky to Knoxville, Tn? I live in between the two.

I don't think they make the pill form anymore. That's what my Suboxone dr. told me a year or so ago. That's when she switched me to the film. I've also heard that the generic form , if you can even get it , isn't as good as the brand name. The dr. I see is Dr. Kelly Walker in Knoxville. Hope this helps.

Hi, I was on Suboxone for 3 plus years. I started on 4 pills a day, I ended up on the strips. I wanted to stay clean and Suboxone helped. I ended up losing my insurance and ended up and still on Methadone, what a nasty drug too...

The only reason I'm taking it is because I hate being with drawls...I;m trying to get Obama care & live in Fl, does anyone know if either one of the generic drugs will be covered with health ins..

"My" opinion, get an stay on Suboxone, Methadone is a nasty drug...I'm 54 and trying to stay sober, I've heard stories that Methadone is worst than herion to come off of

I agree with calling BS comment. I have real good insurance and they will not cover strips no matter what. Only generic pills and the doc has to be specific on the script. My insurance also will not cover him to write the script but the do cover the pills, all I pay is $15. They all work the same but the strip feels a little stronger but I'm not trying to feel high so generic is perfect. I found it harder to come of of strips. We are all getting screwed because you get off of one drug just to be on another. I just remember how I thought I was going to die from H come downs and it makes everything else in life easy. Take it one day at a time and don't let it beat you.

Hi I take subs and I'm getting the strips and I rather have the pill my guestion is wut is the name of it the pill from because I called my insurance company to make sure that the pill would b covered if I switched to the pill and they could not find it my pharmacy has them to I called the pill form of suboxone they have.So I would have my doctor write it out as the pill form also is it the same price as the strips.

as of March 1 2017 Humana stop paying for the suboxone films now you only get the suboxone tablets can anyone tell me if passport is gonna stop paying for the suboxone films because I'm seriously thinking about changing my insurance company over to passport

Cat lady to people who need a doctor. Norton's fincastle in Louisville primary care physicians will referred me to a dr who specializes in sub strips or whatever works. Takes passport! Praying for you

Not true. Insurance pays for all of mine, the visit and the medication.

Granted, there is a fairly decent deductible that had to be met ($1000, but that is satisfied after 3.5 vists @ $300 every 28 days)...maybe that is why?

My doc only gives me 28 days worth because, well, i really don't know honestly.

I only take 2 mg buprenorphine/naloxone (2/.5) and i'll tell you what...i'll be on it for the remainder of my life. If you're just beginning this journey...bite the bullet and suffer for a week. It is imperative that you begin your taper immediately (if you're ready obviously)...if you EVER want to be clean.

I've gone 1 FULL month...full blown withdraws and almost died from dehydration and lack of electrolytes (vomit + diarrhea + extreme sweat for an entire month = bad news). I was told I'll never be able to get off so I'm going back to methadone because if I'm going to be on drugs, I might as well take a drug that doesn't block my own body's endogenous opioids (which is what suboxone does; blocks your endorphins so you can't feel ANY pleasure nor will you get that feeling of accomplishment if you do something good with your life because that "pat on the back" for a job well done is created by endorphins (and other NTs) and suboxone blocks all opiate-like receptors...

FUN FACTS about SUBOXONE:

1) less than 2mg of suboxone acts as an AGONIST on the opioid receptor site.

2) 32 mg is the MAX working dose of suboxone (ceiling effect), but the effects are pretty much done at about 12 mg (the increase in efficacy from 1mg - 2 mg is WAY more than 16mg to 32 mg even though the dose is 'doubled')...opioids doses (specifically when titrating down, must be thought of in a "percent change" vs "mg per mg change"...

3) Suboxone trials (and most literature pertaining to the drug and its efficacy) were conducted with the reference data that had a COMPLETELY different delivery vector as what is actually used today (are you really surprised? lol)

What do I mean?

- Suboxone literature clearly states that it was studied as a suspension in ethanol
- Why does that matter? This is insane, but true:

Suboxone's sublingual BA (bioavailability) is increased (as an *additive* increase) AS MUCH AS 70% when the drug is delivered via this etOH suspension, but, pharma now uses a chemical to open up your vessels under your tongue (to "increase absorption") ... and thus the "suboxone film blister" that can arise for some people who use the film regularly.*

*Please don't abuse this information (as drug addicts tend to use information like this for) ...you're on suboxone for a reason (to break that habit and lifestyle), and I doubt it is to feel high. Be smart. Ask questions. Addiction is NOT the drugs fault. Addiction is NOT the persons fault. Addiction is over 90% attributed to the environment a person surrounds themselves with as well as activities the person chooses to participate in to "have fun"...research it, the truth about addiction that is generally accepted is propaganda for big pharma. Now that I'm off my soap box, be safe and take care.

I have an appointment there Friday & I will truthfully say that opiates have taken my life over bow I have to have at least 3 suboxone films to even get me through a day so I'm wondering how many they give a day there

I've got Obamacare and before I got screwed over by it... all I had to pay was $10 for the 60 8/2 actual strips as well( non generic) at Walgreens no less Jacksonville Florida.... no Walgreens doesn't cover Obamacare so I have to go to Publix.... it's almost 2 years going good until a few months ago and now I'm paying 350 out of pocket because the doctor sent the wrong doctor's authorization...

I have passport. I've called every where I can but have yet to find a doctor that doesn't have a waiting list that isn't 2 months or longer. I won't be alive in 2 months. Opiates have taken my whole life away. And I'm positive that without help now my family will be planning my funeral. Does anyone know a doc without a waiting list that accepts passport? I don't want to die. Please help.
