Xarelto Fluid Retention (Page 6)

Updated

I had to take Xarelto due to two sinus venous thrombosis in my head. 8 weeks of heparin injections showed no side effects. But with the first day of taking Xarelto my body reacted by retaining water. Within the first three weeks I gained 24.46 lb hill exercising 5 times a week and eating as I always did. After retaining more and more water I stopped taking it after three months. I started with a weight of 120 lb at a height of 5''8 and now I weigh 157 lb. I have to ad that I started taking it in the middle of March and stopped taking it at the end of June. I was not able to loose any water/weight. I eat less than I always did before even while I exercise. All doctors couldn't find the one thing that changed through Xarelto. Has anybody ever experienced something like this while taking Xarelto??

That is interesting about the fibroids... Lo loestrin can cause dvt also just looked it up on Rx list... I know I got mine .. Left leg groin to knee... Because of my back surgery.. But if you didn't have any surgery or pregnancy that can cause blood clots I would be looking at the lo loestrin as your culprit. And people wonder why I hate to take medicine... Lol

So I saw that this conversation started again. Since my last post I have been on a juice cleanse w/only 2 boiled eggs per day & lemon water. Still working out hard yada yada...this weight loss is SLOW & requires extreme methods. Weight watchers did nothing for me even after a month w/no cheating. Something else I've been doing which is showing the slightest difference in my skin appearance is I've been rubbing my skin in the shower really vigorously with exfoliating gloves until it's red to try to stimulate my lymphatic system. The appearance of cellulite has been the worst for me to come to grips with b/c I've never had to deal w/that in my whole life.

@SuperMommy - Eating so few calories may actually result in a weight gain... I'm having good results (started 3/1) so far: Start day with 1 lemon juiced and mixed with filtered water. 1 protein (1 HB egg or other lean protein) + 1 fruit (citrus, berries, apple, pear, low sugar fruits - not melons/pineapple). 2-3 hours later, enjoy a fruit snack, 2-3 hours later enjoy lunch 1 protein + 1 veg (unlimited lettuce, celery, stick to low carb veg, not potatoes or corn/carrots/peas), 2-3 hours later, 1 veg, 2-3 hours later 1 protein + 1 veg, 2-3 hours later 1 veg. It's more than you're eating now, but will fill you & keep the metabolism going through the day. I'm down 5 lbs since I started on 3/1 & not hungry. I enjoy black Earl Grey tea through the day. I'm hoping the weight loss will continue at a 5lb rate / week :-) I've got 40 lbs gained in the first 6 weeks of Xarelto use to lose.

Good luck to supermommy43 and mtnspirit...I am down 2 more pounds since starting the lemon water all day and normal eating... That is about 7 lost since last week of January.... Thanks mtnspirit! Also just bought a hydro massage package 5/100.00 they are 15 min sessions & they are amazing. So many wonderful benefits. Thinking that might help w/the skin appearance. They aid in circulation & expelling toxins from body amongst other things. If you have access to them I highly recommend one.

I don't think dieting is the answer. In May of 2016, I started drinking lemon water, ate clean, used the sauna, never lost weight. Ramped up the lemon water during lemon season(we have a tree) still nothing. I think the weight we lose is fluid, which just fills up again because something isn't working properly. I'm presently trying Garcinia cambogia, and organic apple cider vinegar, but deep down, I feel that is not our problem. I notice people begin to finally get better after being off Xarelto for a long time(1 to 2 years?!) Something inside has to heal?...

Definitely agree there is something inside us xarelto messed up...i guess we are all hoping all our brainstorming on here will figure out what it is that our body needs to heal...i am sure someone out there that helped develop this drug knows what our problem is... Too bad the drug company won't even acknowledge it is a problem. The lemon water seems to work for me so far so I will stick with that until we find something else...

Sigh.....I agree. I guess doing everything we can including dieting helps us all rationalize that we are leaving no stone unturned. I can sense that we are all extremely healthy individuals who are highly disciplined and intuned with our bodies which is what makes our situation so difficult for us to deal with. Most average people would not be affected so greatly by our situation, they might not even Make the connection or just blame it on something else. We know better...

I know I have done many hours of research myself trying to figure this out... I was a paramedic for 30 years and before I got injured was studying to be an RN... So with all that medical education and I am still baffled as to what it has done to us... Not to mention still frustrated as hell... I have never had a problem this difficult to figure out... But I don't think any of us are ready to give up and accept this.

Hi. I came across a good website to check out: Water-retention.net. She is an expert in water retention; wrote THE WATERFALL diet. There's a lot on the website to look at. Also, she recommends seeing/finding a Naturopathic doctor. She said they train in these areas.

There are 3 things that I have been doing over the past 4 weeks that have made a significant difference in my weight and abdominal bloating. The only thing I don’t know is which one has the greatest impact. A couple of things tndrhrt57 had posted caused me to do some more research and I found this article: “The Super Food That Can Heal & Repair Your Gut”, elissagoodman.com. Could Ammonia Permeability due to low HCL be our problem? My Program - eat celery on empty stomach first thing in the morning, lemon water during the day, and limit Total Carbs to 20g/day (Total not NET Carbs). Calories are not limited - eat until satisfied.

Caveman, I think it's the lemon water that's having the greatest effect b/c it is a natural diuretic & I was starting to see a difference in my skin's texture & abdominal bloating. The only problem is that when you don't take it for a few days in a row your symptoms return. I missed it for 4 days & saw a difference....which leads me to believe that our bodies are still holding water b/c of something that was affected by Xarelto. Also If you look at the new updated symptoms it does in fact include water retention! Doesn't say anything about permanent water retention which we are all dealing with, but at least now they are acknowledging it as a "rare" symptom.

Supermommy43 I noticed that too... Even If I am away from home and don't drink as much lemon water as usual I feel it... Also for some reason eating pork is now a no no for me... Weird...Now that they have finally acknowledged our symptom, which probably isn't as rare as they think it is, maybe they will work on a fix for it. Meanwhile at least the lemon water keeps me comfortable.

Caveman I also take 2 tablespoons of braggs apple cider vin in 8 oz of water an hour b4 bed & sub lunch most days with a Kachava shake which is packed with healthy energy boosting superfoods. I have also contacted 4 different lawyers who although sympathize with my complaints & believe them, they are swamped with deaths & seriously dangerous side effects. Our problems with fat/water retention seem trivial even though they are serious to all of us. The problem is we need to show proof from s medical test to bring something forward. Has anyone reached out to a hematologist? Or endocrinologist? Expressing our concerns & requesting tests from specialists might be our only hope in finding a cure. If we can figure out what this drug did to us then we can figure out how to fix it which is what I really believe we all want.

I'm afraid that unless someone dies from the water retention/weight gain, we won't have much of a case... :-/
Obesity does raise risk of getting a clot - so even though Xarelto may help, we may suffer ill health from the side effects, we should be thankful, as we're still alive to complain/suffer. Lawyers love debating perspective. I'm hoping the lemon water/celery increase will help with the side effects still experiencing after stopping the meds 6 months ago.

You are right about that... I have expressed my concerns to my vascular specialist that prescribed it as well as my PCP and even my pain management doctor all have acted like I was nuts. We have got to find someone to take us seriously as having this much extra fluid is hard on the pulmonary system and the cardiovascular system. Not to mention the wear and tear on our muscles and joints from the extra weight. And yes I am glad to be alive but I am also very worried about what else this is doing to our system.
