Xanax Refilling Prescription (Top voted first)
UpdatedCan i refill a 30 day prescription in 29 days, of xanax?
Yes. They will usually allow up to 3 days (well, 2, really) for drugs under Schedule IV, assuming you live in the US. (I think it's IV, but whichever one benzodiazepines are scheduled under). BUT, I do believe it is at THEIR discretion, so don't push the limit (or their buttons).
Actually if you fill an Rx on 3/22/17 & start taking it that day; you START counting from 3/22.
So it would be 3/18 & that would be 28 days. Month to month is gonna be different because of the amount of days in each month.
@timbo,
I see you posted this a while back. Did you end up having any success in getting it filled early?
I'm not sure if there are any specific laws regarding this matter (especially with only 1 day to spare), but I do believe your doctor is the one who is supposed to give you prior authorization towards getting a refill by a certain date.
Some pharmacists also like to give patients a hard time when it comes to medications that are commonly abused. But if you go in there and they throw up resistence, it doesn't seem like there's much you can do as a customer, except wait it out or take your business to another pharmacy. Pretty one-sided in that sense. But since xanax is a controlled substance, I'd be interested in hearing how things worked out for you.
No, the doctor write the script. For example 2/22//16 for one month. Technically your refill should March 22nd. But they will fill it on" March 20.
Depends on whether or not you have a pharmacist who is still upset they weren't fit for an MD license. They can be real ****s if they want to. You can get them up to 5 days ahead, but it's rare to find a pharmacist who will do more than 3 days early. I've been on them, or all 3 big benzos but Xanax especially, for years. I've never had a problem. Actually, just picked them up yesterday, the 20th. Got them last month on the 24th.
Usually 2 or 3 days early but I have gotten it 8 days early before.
Re: Amy (# 16)
Call the new Pharmacy (TALK to the Pharmacist) & tell them you'd like to have it transferred to them FROM the old Pharmacy. IF they can still transfer a controlled Rx, they'll ask you for all the info.
Re: SheriAmore (# 19)
That's kooky with CVS! I don't even use CVS yet my drug plan is managed by CVS/Caremark. They will only allow me 3 months of Protonix yet allow unlimited Xanax, go figure!
Yes
Absolutely! Genally they will fill scripts at least 48 hours before a person runs out of the medication.
You can have your narcotic script fill 48 hrs before it runs out. Once you let the pharmacist know that you know your rights they will back off and fill it.
Yes! You can usually refill up to 3 days early. Although, I would check with your insurance, since some may make you wait the full 30 days.
Eh Doc, how could you not know what class medicine this is? Since I posted in 2014 much has changed, at least for me as Rite Aide makes you wait until the last day. Its kind of funny because I can wait longer, have a few spares left. Even if insurance will pay early (70% is what figure Caremark uses) controlled medications are now harder to fill early
I need a doctor that will prescribe me xanax for my angina attacks an my panic attacks
Yes Walmart does 28 days so 3 days early but usually once you transfer a schedule 1 to 4 once that's it you can't transfer again unless it's a new written script. But Walmart n most places fill 3 days early
I have a script for Xanax with refills and my pharmacist gave me the first lot then said she may not have a second supply due to their suppliers. Another pharmacy I rang said they can help. Should she give me back the scripts for the 20 day pickup? What should I do?
Re: SheriAmore (# 17)
You are allowed to transfer a Controlled prescription once during that 6 month period. Some State laws might differ
Re: EDDY (# 18)
Hi Eddy! I thought so too & the only reason I mentioned about maybe not being able to transfer a controlled Rx is that here in California, the two CVS's that I deal with (I think, depending on the Pharmacist) won't even transfer between the TWO CVS's!! I've been there 1-1/2 years & have asked a couple of times -- one time they did & one time they told me they couldn't because it was a controlled substance!!!!! But then it seems like CVS writes their own laws. SMH
I have two old 2mg Xanax scripts that I lost and didn't fill. How long is a Xanax script legal to fill?
They will not fill it early because it is controlled by the government.so when they try to refill it it will say one day to early. I know that in the past my doc would prescribe a certain amount to be filled.evry 30 days and put + or - 3 days so.u can fill it up to 3.days early.
