Xanax Or Klonopin In Stl Area?

Ive had extreme anxiety and frequent panic attacks for years, and every psychiatrist i have seen has just given me antidepressants or buspar, and none of them even take the edge off. I truely believe i would benefit from a low dose of klonopin or xanax, but i dont want to waste my time with doctors whl refuse to prescribe them to anyone. Which doctors should i try? Thanks.

Hi there - I too suffered for many years from panic attacks and was prescribed Valium 5 mgs which helped me tremendously. However - my psychiatrist father got wind of this and put an immediate stop to it. Now - deal was, he felt it better to work out the "reason" for the panic attacks" via therapy and partially he was right BUT - in the moment of a horrible attack, therapy was certainly not going top help and the valium did - what to do? Sneak of course right? Well, not right but it what I did anyway back when I was all of 19 (57 now) - so - my feeling in having been in recovery now 18 years and also a psych nurse as well as having worked in rehab is that if you do suffer panic attacks get yourself a good pain/addiction doc and explain your situation - you do not have to be in pain or an addict to see this kind of doc by the way BUT - pls make sure to choose someone who is cool and ethical too who will not judge, shame, blame, dis or any of the things a lot of docs do for whatever stupid reason it is they do - whatever - BUSPAR ABSOLUTELY does not work nor does Inderal or anything other than a reg anti-anxiety!!! I would stay away from Xanax and prob go for Ativan but in small doses - the smallest poss as the withdrawal from sucks and your body will def get addicted to physiologically whether you are prone to addiction or not - just happens and truly - they are really hard to get off of and will give you rebound anxiety which is worse than the original anxiety!!!! So - pls - find a good doc who deals with either anxiety proper or a good pain/addiction person who should understand - if they do not then find another!!! Then if I were you i would try to get into therapy to try to understand what the panic is caused by as well as get into a yoga class of T'ai chi or Chi Gong - all really good at helping you learn to manage your panic attacks via breathing and sucks opposed to a chemical - however - the pill certainly helpful when you are in the midst of a royal and intense panic attack. Make sure though to be followed by a good doc and do not take this on by yourself - hope this helps!!!!
