The original bottle has a couple years on it. The pharmacy's just automatically put one year from the fill date.

I thought this thread was about grapefruit juice and Xanax? Xanax has roughly a 90% first pass bioavailability, meaning that 90% of the med gets into your bloodstream the first time through your liver. This is why it works so fast, and leaves your system fast as well. Grapefruit juice shuts down the enzyme in your liver that metabolizes benzos. The heartburn med Tagamet will do this also. So technically it will allow a small amount of extra Xanax to enter your system faster, but you're only looking at a few extra % points. As for half-life, even though it has one ranging from 8-12 hrs, the effects are only felt for around 4 hrs for someone who takes them on a regular basis. For insomnia, the occasional user, (couple times a week MAX), will be asleep for the whole night on the correct dose.

You can buy Xanax online, but not from a US pharmacy unless you have a prescription. It is a highly controlled drug. I have taken Xanax for 12 years. I NEVER abuse it my taking more than my prescribed dose. This medication has allowed me to calm down enough to sleep and to function during the day. When you truly need it, that is, you have anxiety, Xanax doesn't make you feel euphoric or high at all. It simply calms you down. You feel "normal." If you take it to get high, like any other strong drug, you can get hooked and if you do and take it regularly, watch out! If you stop cold turkey, you can have a seizure. This is not a drug to play with.

You went from .5 mg to 8 mg per day? Hefty dose there? About your insurance covering the additional medicine, Bars cost me 2 cents. Without insurance these Bars would cost 10 cents. If your doctor writes for extras there is no reason you can't pay cash. An insurance company can't tell you what amount of anything, aside from the amounts they don't pay!

Carl- Your post (#37) was enough to make me leave this site and not come back. The thread was about Xanax and grapefruit juice; not a whole disertation on the half-life of each benzo vs. another. Sorry man, but somebody had to say it.

You took too much at one time. Break it in half. Over time you will build up a tolerance to it and the effect will change. Do not take more than prescribed. It is a short term only medication and is highly addictive. Only patients with major sleep disorders or severe anxiety disorders will be prescribed long term.

clearly you do not have any type of anxiety disorder. I do, and the effects make me calm and sane—not racing thoughts about everything. I am 5'1 95 lbs, and my boyfriend is 5'10 165 lbs, if I take 1 mg xanax I do not fall asleep; however, when HE takes 1 mg of xanax, he passes out really fast and sleeps for soooo long. (he does not have a diagnosed anxiety disorder like I do). That's the answer to your question. So you should lower your dose if you want to get those feelings, try .25 or .5 (though neither of those really do anything to me)

If you smoke cigarettes, they lower the concentration of xanax in your system so you could try that too.

I am prescribed 6mg of Klonopin and 2mg of Xanax per day but I would never actually TAKE all of that, despite my enormous tolerance. I usually take 2-3mg of Klonpin per day and none of the Xanax, unless I have a panic attack. I wouldn't take more than 2mg of Xanax in a 12 hour period.

What you say is true...EXCEPT, you didn't mention the 1/2 life of the drugs. Xanax (12-18 hrs) Klonopin (30-50 hrs). The shorter half life makes you want them sooner ( the tendency becomes more habitual with a short half -life, addiction, or abuse.

1 mg of xanax is enough to put a horse to sleep! I've been taking it on and off for years and I'm only taking .25 or .5 at the most. Talk to your doctor about that!

I'm sorry to hear of your situation, I have been their, locked myself in the house until I received meds, Xanax and Klonopin. Until I got a new doctor, mine had retired, and the replacement didn't believe in them. I had been taking benzo's for 35 years. I could hardly get to the Western Union, and then had to wait 3+ weeks, and reordered and stocked up,as soon as they came, but that was just to get me on my feet and get a new Doctor. I have always been originally prescribed the middle dose in my life, tid (3 x a Day), but on the second visit tell them I still have the same problems, helped a little, is there a stronger dose. Don't take more than prescribed because running out is worse than just taking too small a dose. You have to ask for a stronger dose, more than 3 x day isn't commend. 2 is most command, then 3. 4 a day is unusual. You have to get a larger dose, or new Doctor. You can't live on online benzo's, they are expensive, if you have to take them regularly unless you have the funds, which sounds not.
Now, your question, I'm not naming names but google Xanax, or alprazolam. Most come from India, Pakistan, or Europe and are legit. You might save by going with 2mg Klonopin (clonazepam), they have 3 to 4+ longer half life, and are usually a little cheaper. I use to take 3, 1mg Xanax, but changed to 2mg Klonopin because of they have less highs and lows because of their long half life. Buy the largest quantity and the largest dose. I am telling you from experience, get another appointment, call now or if you have one, tell them straight of the bat, it helps a little, but still having problems, etc. ect. ect. No help, don't put it off, get new Doctor. I can take large doses and not even feel it, when I take nothing is when I really feel it. Some can take the smallest dose and fall over asleep. It all depends on the person. Good luck, do it before you run out, the agoraphobia will stop you from accomplishing this and the anxiety.
