Xanax 605 Blue Pill

Xanax 605 Blue Pill

I would like to switch over to Xanan 605 Blue Pill. Can I do that right away or do I have to wean off the ativan. Are there any side effcts. I heard Ativan and Xanax are about the same. I am on Antivan #2.

The Xanax is actually stronger, so for each 2mgs you take of the Ativan, you'd need just 1mg of Xanax.

Why do you want to switch? Is the Ativan working for you?

This medication may be habit forming and could cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache and irritability.

No they are not the same but both are benzodiazepines. Lorazepam (Ativan) is a drug used for treating anxiety. It is in the benzodiazepine family of drugs, the same family that includes diazepam (Valium), alprazolam (Xanax), clonazepam (Klonopin), flurazepam (Dalmane), and others. It is thought that excessive activity of nerves in the brain may cause anxiety and other psychological disorders. Gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) is a neurotransmitter, a chemical that nerves in the brain use to send messages to one another that reduces the activity of nerves in the brain. It is thought that lorazepam and other benzodiazepines may act by enhancing the effects of GABA in the brain to reduce activity. Because lorazepam is removed from the blood more rapidly than many other benzodiazepines, there is less chance that lorazepam concentrations in blood will reach high levels and become toxic. Lorazepam also has fewer interactions with other medications than most of the other benzodiazepines.
I've been on lorazepam, clonazepam and alprazolam over the years and find alprazolam works the best for me, but it works differently on everyone. It's not necessarily true that 2mg of Ativan (lorazepam) is equal to 1mg of Xanax (alprazolam). Everyone reacts differently. Most people find Ativan works for a shorter time than Xanax.
IMO Xanax works better for me. I have chronic pancreatitis and because of it I am nauseous nearly all day and have significant pain every day. If I take Xanax with my nausea medicine it works better, even tho it occasionally makes me sleepier than the nausea meds alone. Xanax is the only benzodiazepine that works that way for me. It also helps me fall asleep easier, or stay asleep longer. It doesn't help much with pain, but like the nausea meds, it makes me sleepier and I can just sleep the pain away.

I almost died on Ativan, actually refusing it after weaning off of Xanax and quite poorly I might add! Wound up in the ER with limited vital signs. I know why I asked my Doctor to switch me from Xanax to Ativan. Then the doctor moved away and although I had plenty of spare Ativan, I couldn't stand them. Big mistake although I am back on Xanax which is pure poison yet works for anxiety.
