Withdrawal From Vyvanse (Page 20)
UpdatedMy son had a terrible experience on wyvance. He has phyciatic systems to include halluciations. The doctor took him off the drup cold turkey and Ihe seems to be having withdrawal systems? Is that normal?
My son is on 15 mg xr addrall and has been on it for a year. He can't do any school work or home work with out it he is major adhd and this is last resort. He him the most intelligent student in his class but without his meds he's the last. He needs it to learn but can't even do simple chores at home without it. I need advice how to help him. I don't want him addicted at 9 years old. Off his meds he's has no side affects but back to his normal hyper self and only getting half of everything done
I started ADHD meds when i was only 8 years old, I was very similar to your son. I couldn't get anything done without it and it really did help. As a child, it is so important to do well in school and get grades for a bright future. I think he really should be on it if needed and when he gets older he may not need it. I am 25 now and still have ADHD. I have been off my meds since April and I am in college. I still would do better on it however with the side effects and turning to other resources , it is doable where as when I was a child I wouldnt have gotten through school without.
Theresa, what you just said scares me, as I believe this is EXACTLY how my wife feels. I have been on 70mg of Vyvanse for almost 2 weeks now. Before that, I was on 50mg for 2 weeks. All together, I've been on Vyvanse for a little over a month. I can relate to how your husband is feeling because I too, get feelings of severe anger, irritability, hostility and resentment when the Vyvanse wears off. It's like I can't control my emotions and I can't understand why. My wife will come home from work and I'll ruin her good mood just by being in another one of my terrible moods. I love her so much and it kills me to see her get upset with the withdrawal symptoms. I feel bitter towards her and everything she does (or doesn't do) annoys the living s*** out of me. I don't know what to do at this point; take a higher dose so that I'm "chemically induced" into happiness, or back off and not feel as bad. My doctor also put me on dexostat with the 70mg of Vyvanse. Perhaps this is intensifying the effect? Just know that how your husband feels/is acting is the drug talking. Before I was on "ADD medicine," I never knew how legit the controversy is with it being a street drug. Now I know. Good luck!
I agree ,adhd meds on off my whole life. I was on 70 mg by sense for almost three years. I'm done with school now ...It's been 5 months , if I could go back I wouldn't take mare than 20 mg ( despite my weight) and only for a year. I fear the long term effects , now that the short terms are done.
My son is 7bout to be 8 he has been taking vyvanse for a lol over a year..at first the med was great he was focused did all his homework no problems.
but as the months prolonged I started noticing some twerks about his behavior as he was coming down off for the day his eyes would twitch uncontrollably and he would have fits of anger r just burst out crying and the doc that prescribed him the meds siad it was just a side effect..needless to say I kept giving it to him and then the nightmares started so bad he didn't want to sleep alone and the twitching got worse. As I explained all of this to the doc she insisted it was just the side effects..tjen he got to where he didn't have an appetite none whatsoever..i would have to give him colodine just to help him "come down"..so my parents being the all naturalist they are had me read one of their books on natural medicines on ADHD..it said higher doses of fish oil the recommended amount for each individual needs could help with his ADHD..so I went to the health food store and talked with the young lady that was there and she helped out alot she also had ADHD and was prescribed the same meds..she had me drop his doses of vyvanse while also taking the supplements vitamins and I'll tell u it was hard and now he is drug free and no withdrawals all by lowering the doses each week while taking the supplements and he's has his appetite the nightmares are gone and so are the twitches..i didn't have a question just wanted to share my story..
Im still in high school and i take the 70mg everyday and i suppose you could say that its about equal, when i take it, i do stay focused most of the day and it helps me to stay awake in class and do my work, but i also feel as if my face were molded, its like i can't get a smile or any other expression other than "sad "on my face. i constantly get asked "whats wrong?' or "are you ok?' and its kinda annoying and it's almost like i'm in a depressed state when im on it. When i'm not on it, i'm really tired (although i sleep nearly 11 hours a day) and i sometimes can't walk straight but i'm able to laugh and be happy, unlike when i take it......my feelings about it are sorta mixed, i don't like taking it but i know i need to because it provides the "attention keeping" that i don't have. i have adhd and it does help. but it may not help others :pp byee
You should try to get off it before it completely ruins your life like it has so many others. The longer you stay on it the longer it will take for you to recover and feel like a normal person again.you can focus in school without a drug to help you, it just takes applying yourself.
Don't let Drs tell you that you have to have a drug to be able to do well in school, it is just a lie. God gifted you with the abilities you need to be able to focus and do well.. You are talented and gifted, don't let this drug take that away from you..
I do not have ADHD and have taken vyvanse 30mg twice before for studying and it was very motivational and organized me and helped me a lot (for a sec i did think i have ADHD). The other day i took 20mg with no problems again, and the day after that another 20mg. Within a couple of hours of that second day I had a severe panic attack, severe shortness of breath, felt suffocated, and the panic attack lasted until i went for work at 4pm which was a distraction. The next morning i thought it was gone, but in the afternoon at 3pm the panic attack and hard breathing came again until i fell asleep at 10pm. it was horrifying. This morning i still feel shortness of breath but am trying not to freak out as to not start a panic attack. during these 3 days i wanted to seek medical attention but i cannot. I am a 17yr old female living with my mom and i could not tell her as to not disappoint her. I will never play with amphetamines again, especially vyvanse, i believe it's poison & highly addictive, i am just worried that this shortness of breath has not stopped and i shouldn't really be withdrawling because i only took it twice recently. any thoughts?
You will be ok... This was probably just a for sure sign that your body does not agree with this medication and its taking a few days to filter it completely out of your system.. Just rember how bad it made you feel the next time you have a urge to take it! Work hard at studying and pray to God to help you and you will see that he is all you need, not some medication that will eventually kill you! I'm proud of you for seeing so soon how bad the medication is and I pray that you continue to make good choices in your life from now on!
Thanks so much for your reply. Yes, although before this happened i was always thinking about how amazing it was, i will never take it again. I really appreciate your response.
Hang in there. I withdrew by pouring out the capsule too. Just know u will probably have 2 s***ty weeks. If u r young, probably sooner. Hydrate and exercise. Good luck. I so feel ur pain.
Adderall and Vyvanse are not technically physically addictive medications, much like coke isn't physically addictive (meaning unlike opiates or benzos, your body doesn't run the risk of shutting itself down when you quit them, or even of making you sick.) They are psychologically addictive. Once someone can think clearly, accomplish basic functions, etc, it might as well be a mild physical withdrawal with how bad it feels to not be able to do that. There will drug cravings, in the sense you just want your brain to work correctly.
I'm 29 years old. I was diagnosed ADHD at ages 3, 5, 17, and 22. I took Ritalin at two different short periods in my child hood and it made me not act like the happy child I was, but it was the best medicine on the market at the time, so my parents took me off it. I did well in school, would have been slightly better but graduated with high honors, but always struggled with math, organization, and horrible handwriting (small hallmark signs). I didn't have issues until I got to college where I couldn't just hear things and learn them and repeat them. I very unluckily, and because my mother is crazy and manipulative, ended up at a non board cert. Psychiatrist who dxed me with Bipolar disorder, when my complaints were inability to sleep and inattentiveness even when I was interested in a subject. I was allergic to the class of drugs she used and she just upped the dosages...I almost died. Long story but I saw a real doctor who re dxed me with what I've had my whole life rxed Adderall xr (vyvanse was a few months or so from being on the market) . Now I felt incredible. Not high, not jittery, just like someone who could focus. I switched to Vyvanse when it came out and it was a better drug....for me. Adderall increased irritability, made me want to eat literally never, and while it helped tremendously it had some really uncomfortable side effects. Vyvanse didn't for me. I am on 70mg of Vyvanse with 30mg Adderall immediate release for the afternoon (none of these xr drugs last 10-12 hours. Don't be afraid of using a second drug in the PM because once these meds are out of your system they are out, and if you have homework or work to do after that happens, you're just screwed.)
I have friends that did much better on Adderall XR and didn't like Vyvanse, amd some they take 3 immediate release Adderall a day bc they have more control over their dosing. Immediate release Adderall is obv more addictive. Vyvanse is metabolized in the small GI tract, and is at its basically molecular level just a prodrug of adderall, meaning that it's a metabolite of the Addys, so really, the differences are in how someone's body handles the absorption method.
I taught preschool for a long time. I've seen children 8 and under on both drugs and it's never seemed to do for kids what it does for adults....it almost always seems to take away their happy kid like ness, if that makes sense. Doesnt mean it doesn't help a lot, but on the developing brain, a drug that forces a young child to focus when it's not really developmentally expected for them to be able to do so for long periods of time is going to run the risk of makING you feEl like the medicine is altogether bad. It's not. But it may be something you stop and try again later. But please don't cold turkey your kids off vyvanse, adderall or aNY of their similar counterparts. Like I said, they may not physically detox, but it feels like mental hell and they aren't going to necessarily have the mental Vocabulary to tell you what it's like. Wean them off. Please. It will make them feel so much less like crap. I also don believe in the only giving it on weekdays theory but i don't want to start an argument so I'll answer the why to that if you'd like but I don't want to just start something. Just remember to think of adhd meds to truly add people as insulin to diabetics. They don't feel okay without them.
Can fruit help strengthen your neurotransmitters quicker?
I took 240 to 300 mg of vyvanse a day for a week . now im off cold turkey. iIcant hardly move , pain in body and stomach. I'm 57 ...how long will this last im very ill and cant move, so weak. I made all corrections. please send answer.
You should be ok within a couple days bud.. You need to try to move around some and be as active as you can. The longer you sit around the worse it will be. You took more than what you should have, but you will be ok. Don't use it anymore or you will find yourself in this situation again.
I wouldn't put my 5 year old son on any of these meds. IMO, it's a bit young to diagnose something like ADHD. I would check for dyslexia before anything. Check his letters and numbers often. Maybe he's frustrated or maybe he's just being a kid. What were his symptoms fit this diagnosis? I'm not diagnosing by any means. Just a thought and what I would personally do for my own son. I have a 9 year old. I pray my son never has to be on any of these drugs and never becomes addicted to anything.....good luck!
This drug os DEXLISAMFETAMINE, a time-relased, concentrated "me, too" drug that is merely dextromphetamine (Dextrostat, Dexedrine). Theoretically, it should cause any problems that Dexedrine doesn't as well. However, thats not what we
re seeing. Parents shouldn't yank kids on and off CNS sims because there IS a physical addiction. What happened to patients like mine, who call, come in and have the kid so I can assess.
This is a molecule-manipulated conversion of dextroamphetmaine sulfate. No withdrawal. Where did you get the idea there was no WITHDRAWAL SYNDROME?
It's dressed up d-amphetamine sulfate. Dexedrine? No w/d symptoms? You're either the poorest reader I've come across in years or you actually believe your own con.
Vyvance is nothing more than a "predrug" that becomes the infamous D-AMPHETAMINE SO4 in your body. Dexedrine has a long history abuse, withdrawal syndromes, etc., Do you REALY not even know what's going into your body? That's sad.i
