Will Taking Suboxone Tell My Doctors If My Chronic Pain Is Still There
UpdatedWas taking 6-8 Lortab's a day with Fetanyl patch every 72 hours. Doctors need to know if my spine pain is still present or if meds were just masking. So he put me on Suboxone. I take a half at a time. Three suboxones and I still have spine pain. What does this mean?

Suboxone doesn't tend to alleviate pain as much as most other narcotics, so after taking it for awhile, you should be able to let them know if you still have the pain and how bad it is, but it will prevent you from going into withdrawals from stopping the other medications.
At this point, after being on it for such a short time, you may be having rebound pain from stopping the other medications, so you'll likely need to give it a little more time, before you know for sure.
The FDA classifies this medication as a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation.
Is there anything else I can help with?
Thank you Verwon. I Had to change to Subutex as I couldn't handle the taste from those strips and also made me very foggy. Been on for almost a month now. Pain and burning in cervical spine area still there. If I'm moving around or on my feet I have to take about 4-5 of these per day just to get some relief. What will my doctors have to do to help me with this pain? It's now known that my pain is real and wasn't just being masked by the pain meds.
They may need to adjust the dosage of this, or add one of your other medications back. It's really up to your doctor, but please make sure they know how much pain you're still in.
Does anyone else have any advice to add?
I agree. I was taking Oxycontin 80mg x3 and being on it for so long it no longer worked.I'very had 7 lumbar surgeries and could go on and on. I switched to Suboxone and my pain level decreased, but it was still there. The pain was pin pointed into the specific area, where before my entire body hurt. I am on a low dose of Suboxone and Flexeril for pain management. My pain level is not a zero, but I am on a tiny dose because I asked to lower my dose after first year.
My Pain Management wouldn't listen when I told them over and over again that my pain was getting worse.
They told me to go see a specialist!!!! Done a lot of research and finally found a Dr that specializes in chronic severe back pain and meds are not helping. He sent me for special MRI and X-rays and I was dumbfounded with the results as was my Dr. 2 weeks later I had massive back surgery. I thank God everyday for guiding me to the right specialist. I got my height back (I lost 3 inches in height because of my back) and I feel awesome. Still can't do a lot of things but the relief from the chronic pain is amazing. And I've cut down to 1 1/2- 2 Suboxone a day.
