Why Do Pharmacies Put Apo With Pill Name Pantoprazole

What does apo or nova mean next to the name of prescription drugs? They put apo or nova in front of the drug prescribed.

In Canada that is done to designate the manufacturer, APO stands for Apotex Canada and NOVO stands for Novopharm.
