A pharmacist cannot change it, but they can refuse to fill it.
There were new regulations put in place by the DEA, so a PCP can no longer prescribe such medications on a long-term ongoing basis.
And not all pain specialists are going to prescribe you more medications, they usually try other treatment options, that don't require habit forming substances.
There was a lot of abuse and over/improper prescribing, which the government is now trying to curb.
Do you have any other questions or concerns?
There are no new laws stating that pcp's can't prescribe meds for chronic pain, although many no longer choose to. A pharmacist can refuse to fill any rx but they can't change a rx. Unfortunately, many drs are telling their patients that the laws have changes and they can no longer prescribe these meds instead of saying they choose not to.
I can really understand the miss used of medication. my concern is that since 1999, my doctors have tried everything to control my chronic migraines nothing works but what the hospital gives me, so it comes in an spray. I don't want to live on disability if I don't have to. The DEA do not live in your body to say what you can or cannot use to help your situation. It got to be a law for the ones who really need it!!!! I still need to know where to turn to for HELP.
Pain Management Dr or Clinic is your best bet. You will need your medical records. A new dr may or may not treat you with the same meds. Each dr has their own way of prescribing. You will have to begin with the mildest med and go from there. That will take time. Many drs now want patients to also use other forms of managing their pain in addition to meds. Things like biofeed back. a pain psychologist, etc.
