I have a bottle of alprazolam from 2005 and I'm wondering if it's still good? It's 4 years old at the time of writing this.

I don't know if this helps at all but I have been getting anxiety attacks my whole life and panic attacks are the only affliction documented in the bible to have been suffered by Jesus. When he was in the garden praying right before the Romans seized him. We are in good company. I know it feels s***ty. I probably know better than most but there are lots of us with anxiety out here, lots who get better. You aren't alone!

I just found a bottle of alprazolam with expiration date of 11/27/12. Thanks for the info on expiration on this drug. I will keep it and use when I fly.
But interestingly - I had a panic attack (way out of whack pulse and blood pressure and breathing problem as I recall) and had to call 911. When they told me I looked like I was suffering a panic attack - I said Oh - is that what this is. And then I calmed myself down without taking any med - didnt even know at the time that I had this bottle. So maybe as bad as that attack was, in my case at least, it went away apparently just by my decision to calm down myself down since I truly believed it wasn't life threatening (as the the er people told me). Just thought I would post this incident - mind over matter?

They say 1year from date prescribed however they will still be good they just might not be as strong I have taken medication that was over a year old and I could not tell a difference! Good luck as for everyone criticizing you ignore them I would say 99% of them need to sweep off their own back steps before trying to step on someone else's steps! Just because people need help with mental health issues there is nothing wrong with it. God gave the doctor's the way to create the medications. To say people just need to pray for mental health issues is wrong. People have KILLED themselves because they were sick. You really need to think about your priorities. You are the one in need of serious help.

Tabetha...when you ask God does he answer you? I think maybe you do need some Xanax... Do you also pray for rain? are you one of those people who feel that God takes care of you? That means you're floating through life not knowing what you're doing... Everyone is in control of their own lives.

good to hear xanax has long shelf life. I would suggest dropping a fresh silica gel capsule (dessicant- absorbs water vapor) into the tablet container. one thing I don't know is whether xanax decomposes over time into other organic chemicals and if so are they harmful. my guess would be that xanax is stable else there would be warnings.
On a side note. God is the creator of all things, gifting man with the reason to discover ways to help each other, drugs for instance. but the world is clearly damaged, us included, so the bare request "Jesus help me" may not cure our immediate pain, but He does attend to our prayers, often in ways we could not have guessed at. He does use pain to make us know our weakness and call for assistance from the only One who can heal our separation from him: sometimes that includes physical relief too. Know this, pain and suffering are not good in themselves, nor is God the author of evil, but He uses all things to work salvation in those that ask of him. no strings attached.

In total agreement w/ Roger. Forget about mild to moderate anxiety, I have taken this drug prn for 23 years. And the answer is "No", I have never abused it. I take it DUE TO SEVERE PANIC ATTACKS. I have run, literally, out of bars, restaurants, movie theaters, and many social events. Each time absolutely convinced in my mind that I was dying. Not going to die. But overwhelmed with an immediate sensation that death was here. It's hard to explain unless you have had one .I'm glad it's around despite the high rate of abuse. It has helped me achieve a much higher quality of life.
I am in the medical profession and decline to provide an answer to the original topic because I have been on both sides of this debate.Looking at all things mental health I suggest you support mental health reform and educating the public through NAMI, the largest US organization fighting for the rights of the mentally ill on local, state, and national levels.

I asked for God for healing in 2009 like you suggested instead of taking the Xanax is my doctor suggest. I'm still struggling with the same problems in 2014 and using Xanax as a result. Thanks a lot for the useless advice. ??
