Cortisone should contain exactly that, it is classified by the FDA as a corticosteroid that is used to alleviate inflammation.
Your doctor may use it with Lidocaine, because it is a local anesthetic that can help relieve pain, until the steroid has a chance to work.
The FDA lists the typical side effects as possibly including administration site irritation, redness, swelling and headache.

I am the person who thought he was getting cortisone and found that the injection given was 4 c c's Lidocaine and the mystery ingredient I found was Kenalog? My reaction was horrific along with the fungal skin problems I'm dealing with to this day (approximately 2 1/2 weeks. My general practitioner said that the reaction I am having was directly a result of the injection. I'm still curios about the injection I was given because my Dr. says this will be in my system 3 mo's. and I will have to deal with it best I can. Was this injection I was given a normal replacement for cortisone or not? I would appreciate any feedback you feel would give me a better understanding of the situation.

I had the shot on last Thursday and had a terrible reaction. I broke out a little in hives and became unusually dizzy. Finally went in the ER.
