Weight Gain With Abilify?

I have just started taking Abilify for severe anxiety and some depression. I am wondering if anyone has had problems with weight gain while using this medication.

I have been on abilify for almost 2 years and have gained 25 lbs. I wish I knew why it caused weight gain. I never had problems with weight before.

My Son has been using this med for about a year.. he is on several other meds and has had a big issue with weight gain and bowel issues.. seems he had an increase in bowel issues once he was on this med..

While Abilify is known to cause weight gain, as a side effect, in studies it was shown to be less frequent, and lower wait gains, than other comparable medications, generally 1-10pounds.

Other side effects may include nausea, somnolence, and mood changes.

Regarding the bowel issues, it has been known to cause constipation as a side effect, along with the associated pain, and cramping that can occur from it.
