There are VERY VERY few side effects of Vitamin d. In most studies, researchers commented about the 'Incredible' lack of side effects of this vitamin- even at high doses.

But everything DOES have side effects- even placebo's- so take a look at the page on Vitamin D Side Effects here:

I am taking 50000 units of this vitamin D one time each week and the doctor is not checking it. I am on my 25th capsule and wonder when I can discontinue it. Thank you. Can I get too much of this?

Hi Donna,

50,000 units of Vitamin D is 50,000 IU's of vitamin d. That is how it's measured, so I don't have an 'equivalent' answer to your question. The US RDA for adults is about 400 IU's, so this is almost 100 TIMES the US RDA and should not be taken except under the care of your doctor.


TO BEANY:

Your doctor should NOT have given you 25 weeks worth of pills. You CAN take too much, although 50,000 IU's per week is about 7000 IU's per day and there has NEVER been an overdose on dosages less than 10,000 IUs per day.

But you need to call your doctor and get another vitamin d test. Your doctor has been NEGLIGENT not to get another test. Give them a call. But be sure not to STOP taking vitamin d. You need to take a maintenance dose for the rest of your life!! Please read my page on Vitamin D Requirements here:

Hello, my mother vitamin D level is 23. Dr recommended to have 400iu vitamin D3
three times. This drugs caused her confusion. I remember in the past vitamin D3 caused her bruises over her body.
