hi, im a veteran who had a nerve transposition surgery at a VA hospital, and needless to say, it went horribly wrong.i've filed a claim (2 yrs ago), just signed up for medicaid here in nyc, and need some relief. VA was was giving me 4 5mg. percs per day, which just isnt enough. never mind the old fractures in lumbar 2-4 from service. in need of a doc.have the mri and all that. any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for your concern. I actually have a referral letter for pain management specialist, but can only use it once, as insurance will be paying for it. So i need to know that the doctor I go to see will be helpful. Im a carpenter,and any repetitive motions is just brutally painful. Im about to lose my business over it cuz I just cant do it anymore.

Thank you for your service and I am very sorry that you are suffering.

I am not familiar with NYC, I haven't been there for a very, very long time, so I can't suggest a doctor, but what I can tell you is that to get the type of help you need, under the new laws, you'll have to see a pain management specialist.

General practitioners and surgeons will only be able to prescribe narcotic analgesics for short-term use, such as for a few weeks after someone has had surgery or been in an accident. Anyone with chronic pain, regardless of the reason for it, will have to see a pain management specialist.
