Triam Hctz 37 5 25 Watson 421

Could use without side effects. Now my pharmacy doesn't carry this and uses only oval green pill marked APO. Instead of eliminating edema, I retain so much fluid that I can't wear my shoes and find it difficult to walk. Have asked pharmacist if others have had this problem and was told no one else had reported this problem. I have tried stopping and fluid decreases, although it takes several days, and waiting a week and starting again. I have done this three times and each time when I take the medication, the edema comes back. In fact it seems to be worse each time. Since this is prescribed as a fluid pill, what is going on and what is it doing to my body other than the edema? Am I the only person who has had a problem with this specific medication?

This medication contains two ingredients Triamterene and Hydrochlorothiazide, so the Triamterene might be causing the fluid retention, the FDA does list it as being among the typical side effects, you may also experience nausea, dizziness, headache, frequent urination, and hypotension.

Have you informed your doctor? You may need to switch to a different medication.

Are you on any other medications? Has there been any change, yet?
