Tramadol Overdose Long Term Side Effects
UpdatedHi, last year in December I overdosed on 100 50mg capsules of tramadol, this was intensional but I was found and I was rushed to the hospital on a blue light, one route I had three seizures and the emergency team was unsure if I would survive, the reason I tried to take my life was I had been in a large amount of pain due to spinal stenosis, for the pain I was taking tramadol 2 x 50mg 4 x a day, 5 ml of oramorph 4 times a day, 2 x co codamol 500/30 4 x a day 50 mg Amitriptaline once a day and I had 10 mg butrans patches, even though I was on this amount of meds I was still in considerable amount of pain and I had enough. Short story is i survived the overdose and was held in a mental institution for 10 days. Since then I have had on operation to solve the pain which solved the pain problem but I have numbness to my left arm/hand still. My question is because of the overdose I am suffering from severe depression, The hospital warned my wife they was unsure how well I would recover because of the amount I took, could this be a brain damage side affect because of the overdose? Before I o'd I never had depression just chronic pain. Thanks

I'm Not a Dr. But I would imagine that depression could definitely be a side effect from all that has happened to your body physically and mentally. I would try going to your Dr again and tell him / her your feelings and maybe try a medication that could help depression...I'm just glad you lived to tell about your experience. blessings to you :)
Since your overdose was last Dec 2014/2013(?) you were probably taking tramadol that was substandard. Even just taking it on a regular basis the substandard tramadol that generic manufacturers are putting now out is causing various new side effects which include anxiety, depression, strange thoughts, etc., between that and the other meds you were taking, especially if they too are substandard generics, you probably have a chemical imbalance. Get a referral to a specialist in this area. Also check with an attorney about the possibility that this imbalance caused by substandard generics could have caused your emotions to throw you into despair=suicide.
Hello! I know this is an old thread. But I was just scrolling through and read yours. Now I'm wondering how you are doing. How's your pain? And how well did you recover from the intentional overdose?
Re: abigail (# 2)
I agree because I was also depressed and constantly wanted to end my life. After being off the meds and less pain I am feeling less depressed and more hopeful. Getting more drugs isn't the answer. Try to get outside and breathe and find someone to talk to about non- medical things.
