Teveten And Abbots Lab
UpdatedI have for many years used this medication and found it the adequate treatment for my hypertension. Its accessibility over the past few years has been increasingly and aggravatingly sketchy..sometimes the pharmacy has it in stock; more often it does not and has to order making it necessary to order way ahead of need. This week another disregard for patients happened to me. I ordered my teveten a week in advance. Called today to see if it were ready as I was now out of pills! The pharmacist had to tell me that Abbott was no longer making the pill and neither they nor affliates of Walgreens could get any. It was their mistake in not telling me earlier this was the case although they evidently had faxed my cardiologist and had gotten no answer; therefore no order for a replacement. The pharmacist to his credit said he would try again. Had I not found a First Aid emergency packet of my 24 hour requirements I should be without help this evening. NO promises of help by tomorrow either from the doctor's office although "They will try to find some one to prescribe another drug". After all, this is the current mode of treatment: if it's after hours or the weekend.."TOUGH LUCK!" Abbotts is almost evil in its negligence and especially for bouncing out mostly elderly patients, I would assume. For a patient there is no recourse other than wait and perhaps a heart attack while waiting? With this particular drug which has I believe only a recent and unevaluated (at least by me) generic, the ways of current medical practice is shown to be much amiss. SO little consideration for the people it claims to care for and/or protect. The Pharmaceutical companies are hands down the villains and who is going to make them stop their passions for acquisition and money. Money before service; the old folks be damned. Yes of course I am angry and will be trying to find some resolution. Thanks for this space in which to vent my displeasure.

I am very sorry about the problem you've had, that's terrible! As a fellow blood pressure/cardiac patient, I understand your fears and I would feel the same.
My suggestion, however, is to go to the ER. Tell them you've run out and can't get it, you're worrying about it, feeling anxious and etc. Since blood pressure medications are not controlled and/or addictive substances, they will be able to help you. They should most likely prescribe a weeks worth, or so, until you find a new doctor or hear back from your current doctor.
Both Losartan and Cadesartan are available as generics and they are both in the same drug class as the Teveten.
The FDA lists their typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, increased urination and hypotension.
Does anyone else have any suggestions?
