Teen Withdrawal From Prozac

Hello, my son (16) has been taken off of prozac. 10mg for 1 year. He was not tapered off, doc said it was unnecessary since it stays in the body longer than most others. He is 2 weeks off of it and is now having bad dizziness, confusion, nausea and is extremely irritable. He is generally a very easy going guy (even before meds) suddenly, he's very short tempered. Are these normal symptoms of discontinuing prozac, that will pass? Or am I right to be worried about this??

Hello, Kassie! How is your son doing?

Yes, as listed by the FDA, those can be normal withdrawal symptoms and they should pass in a few weeks, once his body gets used to being without the medication.

He may also experience some rebound depression, anxiety and diarrhea. If the symptoms get severe, you should consult his doctor.

Is there anything else I can help with?
