According to the U.S. FDA, this medication is actually not intended for long-term use, it is usually used for 12 to 16 weeks, then a break should be taken. Taking it continuously for too long creates an increased risk of hip fractures.
Other side effects may include nausea, dizziness, headache, stomach pain, and flatulence.
