Strong Muscle Relaxer
UpdatedI have severe back and hip pain, my right hip has dropped down almost a half inch causing my back bone to off center. I have tried multiple forms of treatment with no success. I have taken a variety of muscle relaxers, and none of them have worked. I am currently taking 20 mg of baclofen 3 times a day. It's this something I can increase in dosage, or is there a stronger muscle relaxer? I really NEED to relieve the tension in my hip.

Hello, Megan! How are you? I'm very sorry that you're in pain.
You shouldn't take more of the Baclofen than your doctor has prescribed. Taking to much could cause dangerous depression of the central nervous system, which could be fatal, since it can lower heart rate and breath rate.
Which other ones have you tried?
Soma, which contains the active ingredient Carisoprodol is a stronger one, but you'll likely need to see a specialist to have it prescribed. It can cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache and dry mouth.
The main concern I have, however, is that your pain most likely isn't solely due to muscle spasms, so no muscle relaxant is going to completely alleviate it for you.
What type of doctor have you been seeing?
I have seen my pcp, a DO, chiropractor, pain clinc management, orthopedic sergeon, physical therapist, and pelvic floor therapist. My pcp is now ordering blood work, MRI of neck and brain, and a nerve study test. And I am hoping to rule out MS though a lot of symptoms are pointing to that.
Wow, Megan! I am so sorry and sincerely hope it doesn't turn out to be MS.
When will you get the results?
I am currently undergoing the tests. Due to insurance I have to have each one done individually, await the results, and depending on results, we will proceed to the next test. It's looking as though it may be another lengthy process.
I'm sorry, that's such a tedious waiting game. I really hope all goes well.
Can you post back and keep me updated?
I certainly will. I had a nerve study done from my lower lumbar down my legs. According to that doctor I did not show any signs of nerve damage nor signs of MS in that area. However my PCP refuses to rely on that one test and wants to continue on with further testing. I am also referred to a pain management doctor. Is that because my doctor has given up on trying to figure out what is wrong? Is she passing the buck? I am not looking for pain medication, I want the problem resolved.
No, it's really just to try to help you, as much as possible.
A specialist in pain management has specialized training in what to look for as to the cause of pain. Not all of them even prescribe medications, some use other types of therapy to help.
How are you feeling?
