Stopped Taking Metoprolol Tart 25mg

So my card. Put me on met25mg once a day and I wad feelinh the lovely initial side effects that you've all described. I exolained this to him and he decided to have me stop taking it. I asked if my doseage shpuld be reduced or if I should just stop taking it. He told me that I'm on such a low dose that I shall be fine to just stop abruptly. The next day I stopped and my heart rate wad resting at 115 all day. By 6pm my bp was spiking at 170/100 and a heart rate of 130. Now I'm 23 not a doctor and meds scare the hell outta me so I didn't know what to do considering it was a Saturday and I had no way of getting in touch with my doctor. After a long night of a fadt heart rate and attempting to fall asleep I took my medocation first thing in the morning. I called my doctor today to explain what happened but stil no call back. Anyone else having this much fun

I am afraid that I, and the medication documentation, have to disagree with your doctor. This class of medications should never be stopped abruptly, it should always be tapered, unless it is being replaced with a different, but similar medication.

The reason that this is advised is because it can cause the exact, dangerous symptoms that you listed. These are called rebound effects.

Why were you put on this medication? Did your doctor suggest anything else that you can try?

I had the same problem with experiencing severe side effects from Metoprolol and my doctor did careful research to find a similar medication that is known to cause much fewer side effects. I have been using it for several months now, without any problems, at all.

My mom ran out of her metoprol tar 25 mg and her lotrel10 mg and can't get to the Dr till Monday she's feeling fine I just want to know if that should be ok. If she did have any problems what could they be? If she starts feeling bad I will take her to the ER.
