Re: Verwon (# 1)
I'm on 50mgs of losartan potassium. My BP was in the range of 145 to 155 over 89 to 98. I’m 39 and my BP is under control. But I want to see about dropping to a lower dose of 25mg. And my main question is, by taking a potassium pill once daily, could it cause potassium in my body to rise high or not? Ok, one other Question - I do exercise, walk, jog, etc. losing weight and on the pill could that cause my BP to drop or will it be leveled out ok? Again, I’m a 39 year old male trying to drop to 200 from 243. I’m at 221 now. BP medication was issued for stress and being overweight. Thanks for any advice or professional answers in advance.
Hi Bob, you can absolutely do this naturally if you haven't already. I know of successful cases with Hawthorne Left infusion or tincture. Gingko Biloba can also be an option. Find a naturopath or herbalist that can help you understand how to work with these amazing medicines. Best wishes!
Hi my husband has been on Losartan for about a year for High blood pressure. He recently has lost 60 pounds and has not had high blood pressure for a long time. But he thinks he could stop taking it now or at least lower his dosage. He was on 75mg daily.
Try alternative medicine! I have hear about it, and I'm going to check soon with a doctor. I will give you his information once I see some positive resulta such as lower my blood pressure. Be safe! And I understand you, we just tired of side effects that can worsen our condition by helping other.
To help keep your blood pressure down naturally, so perhaps you can safely go off the medication, there are some things you can do….
You can lower your sodium intake, as much as possible. Our bodies don't need anywhere near as much as most of us ingest each day, so the recommended limit for most heart and blood pressure patients is 2,000mgs a day.
Some people would likely be surprised at how much sodium is in some seemingly healthy foods.
You can also make sure to get lots of regular cardio healthy exercise, generally at least 3 days a week is recommended.
There are also some herbs that may help, if it's safe for you to take them, such as Lemon Balm, Basil, Cinnamon, Cardamom and Garlic.
Stay away from Black licorice, or the extract, since that can actually elevate your blood pressure.
Are there any other questions or concerns?
Bob, if you are going to work on a taper schedule with your doc they will probably tell you to take actions towards lowering your BP naturally at the same time. For example reducing sodium / salt intake, avoiding foods high in salt / fat, and also exercising for 30 minutes a day (even walking is very good). Then as they monitor your BP if they notice it is dropping to a good level then they can work on lowering the dose of the med. I don't think you should try to stop without either your doc or a naturopath who can monitor your progress with you.
I'm sorry, there really is no safe taper schedule that I can give you.
As I said, if you're taking it to treat high blood pressure, it isn't safe to just stop it. You'd need to replace it with something else.
If you want to stop it and not replace it with another medication, only your doctor can advise you on that.
There are many risks that can occur from high blood pressure getting out of control, such as stroke, heart attack and congestive heart failure.
There is no actual cure for high blood pressure, so even though your blood pressure might be at better levels, after having taking the medication for awhile, that doesn't mean that you can go off of the medication and have it stay low. There's a good chance that it will start to go back up.
Is there anything else I can help with?
Thank you for the information. However you did not answer the question. Thank you for your time.
Hello, Bob! How are you?
What condition are you taking it to treat?
If you have high blood pressure and stop taking it, you create the risk of your blood pressure going back up, again. There is actually no cure for high blood pressure, it can only be managed. This is especially risky, if the medication is the only thing keeping it down. Elevated blood pressure creates the risk of heart attack, stroke and congestive heart failure.
Are you also watching what you eat and getting plenty of exercise?
Losartan is an ARB that's most commonly used to treat high blood pressure, typical side effects may include nausea, dizziness, headache, hypotension, increased urination and headache.
