Stop Taking Hydrochlorothiazide
UpdatedI stopped taking it because I could not get to the pharmacy. I gained 5 pounds in one day!!

Yes, that can happen, if you stop taking it suddenly, due to rebound fluid retention, as reported by the FDA. You may also experience edema, elevated blood pressure and elevated heart rate.
In the future, it would be best to pick up your refill early, to avoid running out.
Have you had this checked out by your doctor? Fluid retention can lead to congestive heart failure, which is a very dangerous condition.
