Yes, it has helped me sleep, I have calmed down but not too bad. I have 10mg. Try cutting it in half to see if that works for you or try low dosage. I sleep better but I have to take between 7-8:30p. It depends on what time you get up. I used to have migraine 3 times a week. I am at 4 times a month. HUGE IMPROVEMENT

I took 25 mg of of this drug one time and literally could do nothing the next day. My legs were like they were made of rubber. I dont think I can deal with this even though I need sleep due to head surgery with lingering pain and anxiety.

Try taking it at night,, I seem to have a real good night sleep and am not sleepy during the day.

have been on amitriptyline for over a year and i have beed sleeping walking and talking to my wife or no one at all. is this some kind of reaction to the pills

I have been taking these now only for 2 days I feel like s*** and bad headaches and I still can't sleep so after reading all your comments I think they can go into the bin and I will find another way of sleeping!

This is really interesting. I just started taking this drug--10 mg for migraines. I think it's helping a lot with migraines and with sleeping. but it's KNOCKING me out in the morning.

i have been put on aciclovir 5 a day and amitriptyline 1 a night incresing to two a night after a week i have shingles and thought it was a pain killer will they help the pain? i am not depressed at all

I have been taking 10mg of amytrip each night for a persistant headache. Took it for 2 months and my headache totally disappeared! Great - however, I found getting up in the morning really difficult even though I took the pills early evening. I was groggy, irritable, depressed, bad tempered and even had thoughts of self harm!! So I have had to stop taking the pills, I feel much more back to my normal self but sadly the headache returned straight away! I have now been given Pizotifen to try but this can cause weight gain - I am already overweight and can't afford to put more on. Anyone tried anything not involving meds? I don't want pills forever but neither do I want this headache that I have had constantly for 8 months!

i have been on 10 mg tablets for about a week now and am so tired and nervous.
They were given to me for pain for my neuropathy. The doctor says it will take a few weeks or longer to help the pain. I hate feeling tired and my legs are so weak.....there must be a better way to deal with this neuropathy. I would mention, though that for help with sleeping, Chamomile tea works great.

Chronic dry mouth ,general lethargy just some of side effects, what I would really like to know is where to go for right information concerning mixing of meds,and what sides at moment taking 8 lots of pills totalling 26 pills and3 injections per day

I have been taking one tablet of amitriptyline 10 mg to help me sleep. In my resent blood work by Bilirubin are slightly high. Could this be a side effect of the pill.

I have only been on it for a week now but find I am unable to sleep...up all night and don't feel too bad during the day but I know it's gonna bite me one of these days soon. Having leg cramps, too. Anyone else? Sounds like most folks are sleeping well.

How long did it take to see weight gain? I've been taking 50mg of amitriptyline for 3 months and have only had dry mouth. But in the last week, without changing my eating habits, I seem to be gaining a little weight. Is it possible to see weight change after being on the amitriptyline for 3 months?

I first started taking these a week ago. 10mg with flexural. I was wiped in the morning so I decided to stop taking the flexural and now I don't sleep we'll and wake up in the morning feeling wonderful. I am also taking lorazepam as needed.. But find I don't need it very often now that I'm taking this daily. I have TMD.. It's helped my mood more then my facial/muscle pain and stiffness. Side affects for the Most part have gone away. Only been a week and no sign of weight gain. Some dry mouth and constipation.

Never!
Elavil IS as it turns out VERY addicting and VERY hard to get off of!
I was on it for three years and weaned off because I hated " not feeling anything"... Months later I'm back on it because no matter how hard I tried not to feel bad I did!
Months mind you I was off of them and now back to feeling nothing and still feel like crap!

I have been taking amiltriptyline for quite some time to reduce the frequency of optic migraines. There is no question it reduced the frequency. I had only one this year and was getting them much much much more often. Yes, I think it does have its side effects of dry mouth, yes, I am tired more but all in all it has helped my opitically debilitating migraines. The tiredness wears off as I take a very very small dose which I even cut in half. Sometimes I thin it exacerbates other anxiety feelings I have but I will trade that for the debilitating, frightening and almost stroke like optic migraines with aura. They were a curse as I never knew when I would be sucker punched by them. Thy absolutely interrupted my life.
