Side Effects For Humira (Top voted first)
UpdatedI just started Humira in the last 2 weeks and I feel like my allergies are going nuts. My whole body is swelling. After reading some of your side effects this is somewhat normal. Does the swelling of legs, face, etc. go away? I went to the general practitioner to get something for my allergies. She seems to think its my body reacting to the Humira.
Why do you say that? what other side effects have you seen? I've been taking Humira injections every 2 weeks from 2012 and it has saved my life! Since my first injection I've been able to work, exercise and have normal life. I wouldn't be able to do most of things without help of Humira.
I myself have been on Humira for the past 4yrs for psoriasis, fibromyalgia. I at first
was somewhat nervous about taking this needle. However, my head was so bad I couldn't put my hands through without my fingers coming out all blood. I am sincerely serious about it. It only took 3 needles (single) to rid my head of psoriasis. A little longer on my legs and unfortunately my nails still remain with the psoriasis.Other's don't notice my nails but I do, only b/c I was told what to look for.
The only side effect I do get when I take Humira is the following day I am very tired and really do not have any get up and go!! I would say that Humira has been wonderful for myself..
I just took my 1st injection of humira yesterday. Jan 17th. I have had RH since my middle 30's and have dealt with a rash for at least 10 years. It's only been about 30 hrs since my first dose and the rash has begun clearing up. My pain is starting to subside as well. No side effect yet.
It's July 28th. And my alergic reactions are just now decreasing. However I'm left with a ton of anxiety from this. I wish I hadn't started this medication. It really has messed with my health. Not so much with my Crohns disease but the side effects are horrible.
I am so sorry! Many people have had bad experiences with this medication.
Have things improved, at all?
Your immune system is compromised which will allow allergies to potentially have a greater effect on you. Humira is a strong drug which requires a lot of commitment. It literally wiped out my plaque psoriasis in 6 months. Not even a blemish remains nor any banged up fingernails. However, I did catch Latant TB which now a) puts me off Humira indefinitely and b) on a 4 month Rifampin regime to eliminate the TB bacteria. 2 months now off Humira as a result of this and no Psoriasis signs which is good.
Hi there! I have been on Humira for approximately 5yrs. Just as yourself I hesitated b/c of the side effects. However when you weigh the pro's and con's every medication that you take has side effects. I had psoriasis everywhere, my scalp I couldn't even run my fingers through my hair because I would bleed from the scabs. I started the Humira to see how long it would take to take effect. I could not believe how quickly it worked for me. Even the Dermatologist was surprised. I had taken 2 inj's. in the one month period, my head was totally clear. Amazing!! I have had no reactions from anything that was listed as a side effect. As I said there are many medications out there that cause problems but they do have to put it on the prescription, it is the law. That does not mean that you are going to get it. Myself, I would say try it, if after 2 needles, this is after you have blood tests and a TB inj. to make sure you are clear. If you find at that point that Humira is not for you then see your Dr. and let he/she know that you are not taking it, with a reason. I do honestly hope that it does work for you. Take care and all the best!!
It took me 2 weeks, to decided to inject myself, I was scared to death to take it, after reading about, all the side effects....
I did find relief, after just one injection, the next day my swelling and pain had gone down over night......
I'm due to take another one tomorrow, but am still terrified about any side effects...
I was terrified to take this medication too, in fact, it took my Dr. 6 months to convince me to take it, after reading all the horrible side effects....
I'm due to take my 4th injection, and so far, I've had no side effects...(knock wood) and my swelling and pain in my knee is almost gone, I have an autoimmune disease (they don't know what kind) but I had major swelling in my knee and could barley walk.....had to use a cane for a while, now, I can walk my dogs for 45 minutes twice a day.....I couldn't sit cross legged, now I can.....I literally could not bend my knee, even after I had knee surgery....
Hi I am a 52 year old male living in the UK and I have been taking humira injections every 4 weeks since 2012. I have managed to keep myself fit through exercise which helps the condition.
In February of this year I collapsed at home when my heart stopped beating. This happened another two times whilst the paramedics were present. I have now been informed that I have sick sinus syndrome/bradycardia and I have had to have a pacemaker fitted..
My cardiologist informed me that my heart is strong and healthy for a man of my age and all the tests confirm this, he couldn't understand why this had happened as there was no underlying cause. When I told him I was on humira and he investigated further it became apparent that humira DOES affect the hearts natural pacemaker. My rheumatologist denies this and says it is impossible to say. there is now evidence that the injections do cause this side effect. Although the drug is very effective the side effects can be life threatening.
Today, I took my 8th injection of Humira, still no side effects.....and I'm waiting for them....
I found relief just after my first injection.....I had unexplained swelling of the knee, had an operation on my knee, they cleaned it up inside, but still had the swelling....now, it's gone.....I was not able to sit on the floor cross legged, 'indian style'....or kneel....now, I can....and I can walk for over an hour....before, it was like 10 minutes...of walking for me...so.....so far, so good.
I have had ankylosing Spondylitis for far too many years and it has savaged me. I have now had four shots of Humira. I'm experiencing bad leg pain and weakness an increased alergies and I am light headed to the point I have to go to bed at time (like today). Seriously thinking the disease might be better than the side effects of Humira. First blood test next week and depending on what they find, I may discontinue it. Life's too short to be experiencing these side effects at my age (76). I have just been approved for medical pot and can't wait. If it controls the pain, I'm off Humira for good. It is worthy noting that I did try Humira six years ago - after two shots I had a GI infection and the doc took me off it. So, this is my second and last try.
I was on Humira for two month. I have Ankylosing Spondylitis and at my age, 76, my doctor told me it was my last hope to slow the procession of the disease. In the two month period, my legs began to hurt badly - more so than ever before, my nerves tinkled (I have a nerve problem for which I take a medication) and I became more and more dizzy and the fatigue was awful- all side effects of Humira. I had a discussion with both the Humira rep and my doctor - both recommended I stop the medication immediately. I was so hopeful that Humira would work, but it did not, at least for me it didn't. In the past I also had trouble with Arava and Methotrexate.
Re: Daniel L (# 6)
Hi. I also have A S. I have been on 2 kinds of anti tnf injections over the last couple of years and my body did not accept the drug. My rheumatologist recommended Humira. To be extreamly honest I was horrified about what I read. My thoughts were im in so much pain and my A S seems to be controlling me so I gave it a go. NIGHTMARE...I felt worse than ever with pain and stiffness could hardly walk at times. Lack of sleep. Horrendous abdominal pain with swelling and always a sight reaction of swelling redness and it was hot. My rheumatologist nurse advised me to stop. I now await another appointment. Just be careful.
Humira deadly injections it doesn't help and causes more health problems
I just got same diagnosis. I am terrified to start it as I believe my liver does not filter quick enough n meds go toxic in me. Yet Dr stating I could work again, he'll monitor it constantly..but what if one injection takes what life is have left, which is depression..
I have been on Humira for psoriasis for a number of years. Never have I heard of Humira causing swelling nor has it been mentioned to me by my Dermatologist. If I were you (I realize I am not) I am in no way stating that I am a qualified physician, or anything of the sort however, I would be immediately stopping the use of Humira at least until you can make an appointment with your Physician, Dermatologist or whomever put you on this Drug. The weird thing about your question is I just watched a Video on someone that was on Humira, she as well had swelling, and honestly when I seen your question it just gave me a negative reaction. Feel free to write me back if you feel the need. I wish you much luck and take care!
I've been on Humira for exactly one year. Started in October 2015 and now we are in October 2016. Nails and rashes from plaque psoriasis are gone. Worked great!
Bad news is that I just came up positive for Latant TB. In just one year, Humira affected my immune system poorly and now I have TB.. I am furious!!!
I have Rheumatoid arthritis and I take an inj. daily of a drug called Keneret. It works well with little side effects. The doctor now would like me to try Humira, because I can inj. every two weeks instead of daily. After reading all the side effects of Humira, I believe I will stick with Keneret.
Hi There: I did hear about the swelling in the legs, feet and face. I at first thought it
to be a reaction to Humira. Had it been me I realized that so many others had the
same reaction. I guess your body has to get used to what it is fighting, once that
changes, then the Humira can do its work for youl
