Short Term Medtopredisolone
UpdatedRX for one week. For a fall 3 months after total hip replacement and eight months after total knee replacement. Titrated med pack 4mg - 6 tabs 1st day down to one tab. Had MRI and blood work and don't want to take until I get results. I am limping but x Ray's taken look good. What else can I take beside prednisone

Hello Mcfer,
Just to clarify, are you asking what medication you can take in addition to the prednisone or are you asking what kinds of medication you can take as an alternative to the prednisone? I'll try to answer both to the best of my ability for the sake of timeliness.
It's much harder to list a bunch of medication that you can take instead of just listing the ones that are commonly known to interact with it. According to every day health the following list is known to have a negative interaction with prednisone. As a general rule of thumb you should always contact your doctor to let them know if you are planning on taking any types of medication in combination with your current prescription medication so that you can avoid any unforeseen issues.
Blood thinners, such as warfarin (Coumadin)
Certain antifungal drugs, such as fluconazole (Diflucan), itraconazole (Sporanox), and ketoconazole (Nizoral)
The nausea medication aprepitant (Emend)
Aspirin
Anti-seizure medication, such as carbamazepine (Carbatrol, Epitol, Tegretol) and phenytoin (Dilantin, Phenytek)
Heartburn drugs, such as cimetidine (Tagamet)
Certain antibiotics, such as clarithromycin (Biaxin, in Prevpak), troleandomycin (TAO), and rifampin (Rifadin, Rimactane, Rifamate)
Immunosuppressants, such as cyclosporine (Neoral, Sandimmune)
Other corticosteroids, such as dexamethasone (Decadron, Dexpak)
Diuretics ("water pills")
HIV drugs, such as atazanavir (Reyataz), indinavir (Crixivan), and lopinavir (Kaletra)
Hormonal contraceptives, including birth control pills, patches, rings, implants, and injections
Depression and anxiety medications, including sertraline (Zoloft), fluoxetine (Prozac, Sarafem), and Phenobarbital
Heart medications, including verapamil (Calan, Covera, Isoptin, Verelan), diltiazem (Cardizem, Dilacor, Tiazac), and amiodarone (Cordarone, Pacerone)
The asthma medication zafirlukast (Accolate)
St. John's wort
As for the question of if there is an alternative medication for prednisone. I did a quick research I found a short list of some other commonly used anti inflammitory medications. Below is the list for this answer. Please note that prednisone is typically the medication prescribed for short term RX's and these medications are more typically prescribed for long term diseases such as Lupis.
Deflazocort
Hydrocortisone
Methyl Prednisolone
Dexamethasone
