I am currently taking Lexapro to assist with my depression and anxiety. The drug is working however, I have the side-effects of a reduction in libido and vaginal lubrication. I recently saw an episode of 'Rescue Me' on TV in which a bottle of pills were opened, and the side-effects read out which included an increase in libido and vaginal lubrication. Anyone else had success with Selectra and does anyone know the type of drug it is and its brand name (or generic name) in Australia.

Selectra IS a fictional drug, just a name created for the TV program.
Most antidepressants cause the side effects that you list, however, have you tried talking to your doctor about trying a different medication?
Drugs do work differently for different people and you may not experience them as much on a different medication.

You should ask your doctor about Welbutrin, because that actually adds to most people's sexuality etc, which is totally the opposite of pills like Lexapro. It also tends to give people more energy, so I think the Rescue Me episode was kinda talking about Welbutrin. Do beware that it makes some people agitated or angry instead of just energetic.

It's inspired by Wellbutrin-- under the name Selectra you can read Bupropon when he googles. Bupropion (notice the extra i) is the generic name for Wellbutrin. However, Wellbutrin can actually increase anxiety, unlike the fictional Selectra. However, it is true that unlike Lexapro and other SSRIs (Paxil, Zoloft, etc.) it doesn't blunt your sexual response. You need to discuss this with your prescribing doctor though-- you can find all sorts of faulty info on the internet.

Because Wellbutrin isn't an SSRI, you may find it doesn't alleviate your depression as well as what you're on now. I tried Wellbutrin, and although it helped my libido, I could barely stop crying. Back to SSRIs and a limited sex drive. Bummer, but better than wanting to kill myself.

Wellbutrin works on your dopamine engine causing it to produce more. It can help certain types of depression caused by lower levels of dopamine. It's also given to coke and methamphetamine addicts during recovery. For a methamphetamine addict it will most likely be a life long regimen since methamphetamine actually destroys dopamine production permanently if used long term.
