the new medicine savella for fibermyalgia does it cause weight gain like a lot of other meds?

After coming off of the Savella I continued to feel terrible with aches and pains everywhere. I was also having muscle spasms so I continued to search for answers. I ended up at a neurologist who found out that my B12 was very low. After taking B12 and folic acid for a month I am much better. The aches and pains are better and the muscle spasm are nearly gone. I would encourage each of you to have your B12 checked. The symptoms of low B12 are about the same as fibro. You'll feel like your dying or at least maybe wish you were! I was also diagnosed with fibro and that is not what my problem was, it was low B12.

Ms. Odie I have been doing the vitamin thing also and the ones you mentioned are great! I added vitamin D to the mix (1000 mcg per day is what I take) and LOTS of vit B12. I'm not a doctor but its helped with me.

I do take it for my FM and it works well. I have been on many prescriptions for it and it might be the one that works the best. However, I did a little test and found out that when I cut out sugar from my diet, the FM goes away.

I have been on Savella for about a year now. It does help my Fibromyalgia. I do want to eat all the time. Have not gained weight luckily. Just eat healthy foods & know once you take this medicine you cannot just stop taking it. Talk to your doctor to been winged off of it. I do like the medicine & the nausea only last a few minutes after I take it now.

I have been on Savella for about six months and have gained 22 pounds! I am not happy about it. I walk and watch what I eat and yet I have gained weight. The pain is a little better but I don't see a HUGE improvement. :(

The medication isn't at all for you gaining weight and being hungry most of the time… i'm taking the medication my appitite is normal

I was so sick on savella i begged my doctor to take me off it!! It was horrible! I couldn't make it a day without throwing up! I felt like i had a stomach virus for a month i HATE it.

I am almost through my titration pack of Isabella and I find I am hungry all the time. Not just hungry, but hungry for bad foods. I eat very healthy and this is very frustrating for me. I know that I have gained some weight, but I am fighting it !

Medication has different side effects for different people. Just because you're not experiencing weight gain, and I am glad you're not, doesn't mean others won't.

I was diagnosed with fibro 3 yrs ago. I am 57. I was Prescribed Savella 100mg. I felt nauseas for hrs afterwards. Sometimes a whole day. Dr re-prescribed 50 mg twice a day. Fibro better, but then I noticed weight gain. I stopped the Savella. Last yr 2015 the fibro got worse. Early part of 2016 I decided a few pounds more over feeling better from fibro would be worth it so I tried Savella again, 50 mg a day. Didnt help fibro much. After 2 months dr said to up dose back to 50mg 2 times a day. Since February to present, July 2016, I've gained 30 lbs. im a healthy eater and love to exercise. Fibro is better but now 30 lbs heavier I dont want to exercise, Im uncomfortable, my energy level sucks, i worry so much about gaining more weight I dont eat enough. So do I continue meds and gain who nows how much more weight for a little fibro relief or dump the meds, lose the weight, and deal with the fibro? Im DUMPING the meds. I would rather go down working through this fibro one day at a time, than die of obessity. God speed.

My Fibromyalgia was so bad they had me on 3 antidepressants and one was Savella. I gained 30 pounds and still gaining even after beening off the antidepressants for over 2 yrs. I was told that several of the ones I was on would stay in your body for over a year. Still having weight gain and I'm not on anything since they talked me into try those 3 antidepressants. I will never take anymore antidepressants as long as I live again. I can't seem to get it off no matter what I do.

Did it help with your energy? I do not have any now because I have fibermalga and nothing my doctor gives me helps with the tiredness.

I just started the titration pack and I'm taking 50 mg in the morning and 50 mg in the evening....I've noticed a big difference in my pain, and I feel like it has suppressed my appetite. I've not weighed myself lately but I don't eat as much.

I have fibromyalgia I was taking lyrica but stopped because it made me gain a lot of weight I now take savella and been on it for about 4yrs now it does help with my pain and I did lose weight on it I had loss of appetite but now I'm on a higher dose I take 100mg in the morning and 100mg in the evening and I've been gaining weight lately not sure if it's me or the sevella but I also take 300mg 3x a day of gadepentin , 500mg 2x a day of methocarmanol , iron pills, 25mg antriptyline,tramadol,omprezole and b12 shots monthly I'm trying to figure out if it's me or the increase does in medicine because when I first took savella I lost weight does anybody else take a higher does and have the same problem

I've been on savella two years 25mg recently i updose it to 50 twice a day
Truley this is the best and safest drug for depression and panic attack… etc. I didn't experience any weight gain… nor prolactine level rised. If you after not to gain weight on antidepressents take savella or wellbitrine

Savella contains the active ingredient Milnaciprin, this is an SNRI antidepressant, approved in the US to treat Fibromyalgia.

While weight gain is not listed as a common side effect, this class of medications has been known to cause it in some people.

Common side effects may incude:nausea, itching, anxiety and vertigo.
