Safest Blood Pressure Medication

On Carvedilol and was on Amlodipine for years. Blood pressure was increasing lately, so Dr changed Amlodipine to 10 mg. This caused flushing in face, ankles swelling, etc. Then took off Amlodipine completely and added Lisinopril. Have backache, nervousness, darkened urine, and dizzy on this. What is the safest blood pressure medicine to use? I’m sensitive to most medications...

All blood pressure medication has side effects. What works for me may not work for you. There are so many of these meds it's really hit and miss till you find the right meds. I've been on about 8 different ones over the past 7 years and each of them has good and bad. Lisinopril I was on for 4 years, worked ok...good luck.

Carl is correct, there is really no "safe" medication, they all carry risks. It is just a matter of finding what works for you, without making you miserable. After suffering heart failure, it took about a year of working with my doctor to find medications that worked for me, without making me miserable. I am also very sensitive to medications, it's ridiculous.

Candesartan and Labetalol are a few known to cause the fewest side effects, so you might want to ask your doctor about trying one of them. The FDA lists the typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, hypotension, increased urination, and dehydration.
