Respridol And Insomnia (Top voted first)
UpdatedI have been suffering from acute sleep deprivation and found it very difficult to get expert advice or understanding. It seems that people associate the term 'sleep deprivation' with tiredness - or something like 'jet lag' - rather than the mordantly frightening experience I have gone through. At times I thought my brain, as an 'organ', physiologically speaking, was going to break. At one time I could not, I mean literally could not, ascend the stairs. I had to prop the toilet door open because of the noise it made when opened. I ended up shouting at my son, who I love dearly and am usually tender and negotiative with, simply because he wouldn't stop talking/advising about a particular issue. He has, I think, no understanding as to the real reason I shouted, thinking that it was a matter of disagreement or pique on my part. It was just the noise. I have been fortunate enough to have two appointments with a GP who actually believed me when I said, very calmly (I have found that a minimalist and measured, if perhaps over adamant, way of speaking is the only way of communicating I can cope with ) that, though there may be underlying reasons for my insomnia, including the possibility of a previous GP's diagnosis of a (re-occurence) of bipolar illness, all I wanted to do was sleep. At that latter point, my resolve crumbled and I started to cry, though stopped immediately. I have exhausted every avenue of help including baing asked to be taken (by the said son) to A and E at the local hospital. They were unable to help in any capacity, nor recommend anyone but the on-call doctor. My wife has sinsce phoned the on-call doctor and was given the go-ahead to give me 15mg of Zopiclone for two nights (my usual GP, understandably, because of my history of abusing sleeping tablets, has refused to prescribe any to me) and I did have some sleep. This was a great relief, albeit that it was for a brief period of time, as I have been suffering from sleep problems for about six months. More particularly I had had 6 hours sleep in the previous 4 days. I have tried to use alcohol with some 'success' but, as I have again a history of alcohol problems - though had gone 8 months without drinking, or evne thinking of drinking - this was a far from ideal or wished for solution. I resolved not to drink at home because of the distress this would cause my wife, but this in turn meant that I had to (1) take myself to A nd E (as detailed above) and (2) spend at least 6 nights away from home. The latter situation was driven (1) by a desparate need to sleep but with a desire not to upset my family (2) the need to drink to sleep. I had no wish for alcohol or sleeping tablets otherwise. I ma finding it so hard to find help from people who belive me when I call it as it is, partly because they are so suspicious of my past and therefore of my current intentions. I have been given some largactil which seems to have helped. Is Respiridol another option?

Your post is very difficult to read, due to the lack of paragraphs and white space.
Risperdal is a generic for Risperidone. It is a very potent antipsychotic medication and one of its side effects is drowsiness and fatigue, so it is often prescribed for patients who have no results from other options.
It does, however, also cause some severe side effects.

Have you been evaluated for Lyme Disease? This is very similar to some of my experiences and those of some other Lyme disease sufferers I know. Although the disease is very different for different people, sleep problems are very common, and neurological problems like the ones you describe are not uncommon , particularly for those sometimes categorized as having neurological Lyme (Lyme disease affecting the brain/nerves). It seems like it can affect almost any organ, and you can have one or many organs/systems affected, so some people have arthritis, some have psychiatric problems (ADHD for example, but ANY and ALL psychiatric diagnoses are possible, including schizophrenia!), some have heart problems, some have all of the above....
And make sure you get a Lyme doctor, the basic tests can miss people, and Lyme is so complicated (and everyone Lyme patient is so different) some Dr's don't know enough to help...

I get very tired if I walk about 100-200yds. My upper arms also feel slight pain continuously of late. My previous history is ADEM 4yrs back(although I am 77yrs old) followed by Septisemia about 2yrs back, and collapse of disc for which my L3 L4 vertebra were replaced by titanium rods. Although post operation, I am also troubled by back pain, I just now limit my enquiry about my tiresome ness only which is very acute and which forces me to be bed ridden?
