Rate Insurance Companies

Updated

I share a sharp warning for those of you who might be considering Cigna Insurance. As a retired health care worker, and now one of the insured, I would like to caution all readers that Cigna, is without doubt, employs unethical tactics to its clients who are already insured. Last year, I enrolled, in what looked to be, one of the best out there; this year, my experience is anything but straight up, provides confusing information from its phone reps, and deceitful in its practices. I have never, in my life, been openly critical of any insurance company. As in all contracts, the bottom line is to read between the cracks.. I am waiting to see just how extensive this crack will be next month. This year, my father passed away in the middle of the enrollment period. Never really thinking that there would be RADICAL changes, and probably, if I had read it at that time, it still might have passed me by. What clearly seems to be a politically driven motive, Cigna not only doubled my monthly premiums, they selected three pharmacies, that would give me the 'best deal.' Right?? Ironically, in this city,(major city) they gave me one of three options to choose. One option doesn't even have a pharmacy in its grocery store; the other one is located in a very congested and a pharmacy that will be the first to question your physician, demanding PA's (prior authorizations to insure it, and will call on virtually any script that they, the pharmacy, not your doctor, to question why it is being used and press on its necessity. Pharmacists are there to fill scripts, explain side effects and information, but they have NO business challenging the doctor, the patient, and in some cases, quite aggressive about it, and have been known to give patients up and beyond information about this medication... I will not mention any names; although, I know from personal experience, their initials, start with a 'C' and end in a 'S.' Pharmacists are not licensed to prescribe, challenge-unless there is a blatant error in the prescription, or hassle the the one who wrote the rx. The waiting time, esp in large cities, is extremely long, privacy is terrible, in most cases, your business is available to be heard by a large group of assembled patients, waiting for theirs to be filled.) They clearly walk the line on digging into your private and confidential interaction between you and your prescriber( MS, DO, NP.) Unless laws have changed, PA's were not permitted to prescribe certain medications; although I must admit that might have changed since my retirement, but have seen some pretty extensions in their right to know or administer prescriptions reviewed and approved by the attending doctor.) I regress- the third choice that I was given was a Walmart, who, whenever I have been in the store, have seen nothing but FOX News blasting the airwaves, and, well, don't get me started on that one. In large suburban cities, WALMART stores are not even located, s of the back pocket for years anyway. Simultaneously, though, if we hear or know of a patient who is obviously drug seeking, or a doctor who is known to be unethically writing controlled substances without diagnostics, then send the DEA after their butts. Patients should not have to live in pain, anxiety, and a lack of a quality of life, because of those who have abused, and will continue to abuse, on either end, make it difficult for all. However, Cigna reps have a reputation for being underhanded, unethical, and their practices need to be carefully considered before ANYONE is tricked, as was I.
