Propranolol And Effexor

I am taking 37.37.5mg of venlafaine,I want to stop taking venlafaine.and my doctor gave. .me 80 mgs of propranolol twice a day for 2 weeks and he said I shouldn't get withdrawals from venlafaine.is this true.
