I was taking nexito 10 and atorfirst 10 for last 5 months. Now I got pregnant. This is my 2nd pregnancy. 4th week running. I am 30 years old. I also took azithromicin 500 for viral fever last week along with Tylenol. Now I am suffering from indigestion. So taking pan d tablets in the morning. Can these medications affect my pregnancy and fetus?

@Rumi,

According to the FDA, escitalopram (nexito) is listed as a category C pregnancy drug. In short, this means there are risks that cannot be ruled out since animal studies have shown that this drug has an adverse effect on the fetus.

However, additional studies published by NIH.gov in May of 2012 go on to note that "escitalopram does not appear to be associated with an increased risk for major malformations, but does appear to increase the risk for low birth weight" - which from my research, could inherently lead to other problems...

Ref: ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/22075232

And here is an article discussing the the long term health effects of a low birth weight: psychiatry.emory.edu/PROGRAMS/GADrug/Feature%20Articles/Mothers/LongtermeffectsofLowBirthWeight.pdf

Moving forward... Azithromycin is in category B, which doesn't depict any evidence of harm to the fetus.

Atorfirst (atorvastatin) is classified as a pregnancy category X.... which means this drug should NOT be used during pregnancy, as studies in both animals and pregnant women have demonstrated positive evidence of fetal abnormalities.

Tylenol (acetaminophen) is classified as a pregnancy category C as well, and carries it's own set of risk factors.

I would encourage to well-equip yourself with as much research as you can before starting any meds during your pregnancy, including OTC options, because just like Tylenol, there may be some discrepancies.

Hope this helps!
