Pantoprazole 40mg Nor Sure Whether It Is Working
UpdatedI have been prescribed pantoprazole 40mg to take one hour before my evening meal. The pill is small, yellow in colour with no markings. It is manufactured by Teva UK. I have been taking this medication for 16 days now and I'm not sure whether it is working. The reflux, gas and nausea have mostly gone, yet I still feel a dull pressing pain in in my upper stomach area. It is not as frequent as before, but it is still present. Is this normal? Everything I read online says I should be cured by now but I know we are all different and my doctor has prescribed the pills for 8 weeks in total. Does it sometimes take a bit longer for the pain to leave or should I request a change to my prescription? thank you.

I'm not sure what your read, but 16 days is kind of soon to expect it to work for most conditions, at least if they have been going on for quite awhile. In most cases, it's prescribed for anywhere from 6 to 16 weeks, depending on the severity of the condition being treated and how the person responds to it.

As to the dull pain that you're experiencing, as odd as it may seem, that can be a side effect of this medication. I had a similar problem, when I was given Omeprazole for gastritis and I did end up having to switch to Pepcid.
If it's very troublesome, you may want to look into switching medications.
Is there anything else I can help with?
Thank you very much for your reply. I appreciate the information you have provided. My doctor requested I check in with her around the four week point in my current treatment plan. I will mention my ongoing symptoms to her then. Thank you again.
Hi I'm wondering did changing your medication help with this? As I am experiencing the same pressure pAin in the middle if my upper abdomen. I have been pantoproitzole for two weeks now-80mg a im thinking the medication is actually making the pain worse. Would love to know what has helped for you. Thanks
Laura,
My mom was taking this before she passed away and I was wondering if you have any other side effects currently?
what time of the day is better to take pantoprazole before breakfast on empty stomach ? or before dinner ?
Actually. My doctor and most of what I've read recommends one hour before your morning meal. I hope that helps.
