Panic Attacks And Prescription Drugs
(Newest replies first)
Updated
I have had 2 panic attack episodes after taking prescription drugs. The first was after taking the second pill of erythromyacin and the most recent was after taking protonix. My anxiety lasts for very long periods of time. I would like to know if anyone else has had a problem with panic attacks or anxiety attacks while taking prescription medication.

Panic attacks are terrible! Sending you big hugs!
I am taking an antidepressant to help with that. It gets worse in the first few days, but it sorts you out in the end.
Reading your story, I am not surprised that you do have panic attacks. Speak to a Psychologist! Get help! And never forget, you're going to be ok, it is only temporary.
jebo ti jesus mater...stupid people !
i have allso panic disorder... and i found helpful web page for all of us...
Diane,
I am so sorry to hear that you are going through this right now. I know how bad these attacks are! I know things couldn't seem any worse than they are right now. Listen to me now! There is no condemnation in Christ Jesus. Jesus came to set us free from sin, not to push our nose's into it. I doubt you're going through this as a form of punishment. God does allow trials into our lives for many reasons, known and unknown to us. If you believe in Jesus and repent of your sins (turn away from your sin), then God has and will forgive you of your sin. You MUST accept this forgiveness in order to have this cleansing take effect in your life. That is sometimes the hard part, isn't it? The other thing I would say is, know that the Holy Spirit is with you at all times. When you have a panic attack and you are in the grip of terror and your mind knows nothing is wrong, believe in the fact that the Holy Spirit is on your side. Believe that this time here on earth is temporal. Believe that this is a passing thing and that the Spirit of our Lord Jesus will deliver you and that you will be stronger afterward. You are in a war, and the world is your battlefield. Your soul is the prize. Guess what, if you have accepted Jesus you have already won! Fight with prayer and with scripture and renew your mind. God is faithful and just, he will bring you through this time of pain. Will you let him? Will you believe? We live in a broken world and God is amongst us in Spirit to help us. He can and will answer your prayers. I KNOW JESUS WILL DELIVER YOU IF YOU FIGHT! Don't give up fighting this battle. This may all seem dramatic to someone that isn't or hasn't had panic attacks, but I know you understand when I say FIGHT IT. I'll pray for you too!
Thanks to everyone for your feedback on my problem with panic attacks and prescription drugs. I have been researching on the internet but haven't had much luck. Jimmy, I don't know how much my prayers matter anymore. I 've never prayed so hard in my life as I have these past few months but I still lost my Dad in May and then my Mom in June in a car accident. My husband and I both lost our jobs in May and so I am really confused at this point. I feel as though I'm being punished although I do deserve it. Now this panic thing happened again 2 weeks after my Mom and I keep praying though I still have no answers. Thanks though for your help.
I suspect you may have drug ALLERGIES...your heart rate and respiration may increase, causing you to THINK you are having a panic attack when in reality you may be experiencing a severe allergy (which could eventually put. you into shock, or shut down your cardio-respiratory system, etc). Do you have hives, itching, dry mouth, or any other symptoms of allergy? The reaction you describe is enough to make allergy a consideration. Obviously, stop the meds and get tested for allergies-including food allergies. Report symptoms to the prescriber and keep a list of drugs you are having these severe reactions to -- they all may have common ingredients or be in the same class. You may be allergic to certain antibiotics and other meds. If you are allergic, the reactions tend to get worse with every time you are exposed to the allergan. Accordingly, be careful and beware as the danger increases each time you take such drugs. Good luck!
Yes, once as a child and then again as an adult. I suffered for more than a year each time and I thank Jesus to this day for bringing me through it! Hang in there and give Jesus a chance to help you!
Yes, this can be a side effect of some medications.
YES, I HAVE SUFFERED FROM ANXIETY & PANIC ATTACKS FOR YEARS.& I JUST LIKE YOU, IF I START A NEW MEDICATION I GET STRONG ANXIETY ATTACKS- THE REASON WHY- IN 1989 WHEN I WAS 3 MONTHS PREGNANT THE DOCTOR KNEW I WAS ALLERGIC TO 1 MEDICINE FOR NAUSEA & I GOT A SHOT OF ANOTHER MED HOWEVER IT WAS IN THE SAME FAMILY AS THE 1 I WAS ALLERGIC TO. I WAS ALREADY A PATIENT IN THE HOSPITAL DUE TO THE SEVERE MORNING SICKNESS, VERY DEHYDRATED. ONCE THE NURSE GAVE ME THAT SHOT IN 5 MINUTES I WENT INTO A SEIZURE I ALSO ALMOST MISCARRIED. SO THAT EVENT HAD STARTED ME WITH THE CONNECTION TO GET ANXIETY WHILE TAKEN MEDICATION. I ONLY START A NEW MED IF SOMEONE IS HERE WITH ME, JUST IN CASE THAT EVER HAPPENS AGAIN. GOOD LUCK, I KNOW HOW IT FEELS
