Hello, Jojo! How are you doing? I'm very sorry about what happened to you.
Yes, your doctor can do that. No doctor is obligated to treat you, nor prescribe any medications, unless you're in life threatening danger. I know it sucks, but that is the way the law currently stands.
The only thing I can suggest is that you try to find a new doctor.
Do you have a PCP that you see regularly that might be able to refer you to someone?
Did you have a Pain Contract ? If you did, did you break it ? If you signed a Pain Contract, many of them state that you're aware the meds you may be prescribed can be addicting. They also state that if you do certain things like have marijuana in your system, have a controlled med that the pain dr didn't prescribe and/or have if you don't take your meds as prescribed, etc that you will be dismissed.
Even if you didn't sign a Pain Contract, as Verwon stated drs are only obligated to treat you in life threatening situations. And you're not in a lifr threatening situation. If you were, you wouldn't be posting here. When a dr gives you a rx for pain meds, they tell you that they can be addicting an that is noted by the dr in your medical records. Patients who continue to ask for and take pain meds and then blame the dr when they become physically dependent is one of the reasons chronic pain patients are having such difficulty trying to receive treatment for their chronic pain now.
I didn't ask him for pain meds, I was on them cuz I was having a lot of surgeries, and he cis thee one that started givong me more and stronger meds. Like I said I'm lucky I have a high tolerance and don't go thru withdrawal like normal people do. I 'm just surprised, I've never met such a lousy doctor.
I am very sorry, I do understand how you feel. This has been happening more and more frequently, though I can't say why.
How are you doing, now?
