Oxycontin 15mg Is There Something Else I Can Take?
UpdatedI am seeing a pain management doctor right now she has me on 15 milligrams of oxycontin the extended relief. I called her and told her that it was not working and she said the next time I come in maybe that she would up the dosage. I've been experiencing headaches major mood swings. One minute I'm happy the next minute I'm crying and then the next minute I'm a raging lunatic. I I want to be on something that is long lasting, I've already been the Norco in the percocet route. Those were not strong enough for me. Is there anything that I can ask the doctor about that is longer lasting? That is also not extended release, and will last longer to make my pain stay away longer? Thanks for any help.

Hello, Phylis! How are you?
If you want something that lasts longer, an extended release is your only option. That's what they're made to do.
How long have you been taking the 15mgs? The side effects, including the headache should improve with time, as your body gets used to the medication, but that may take about 4 to 6 weeks.
The FDA warns that this medication carries the risk of being habit forming and its other side effects may possibly include nausea, dizziness, drowsiness and dry mouth.
My friend is on methadone she says it works great for her. Except now her hands and anklesare swelling. so now in 3 weeks when she goes back the doctor is going to put her on dilaudid. we see the same pain management specialist. and she has only been going one month longer than I have. I don't understand why she is so quick to change my friends medicine but yet up my dose of the oxy. side effects from the oxy are at just the headaches it's the mood swings its ruining my life in my relationships. I feel sorry for my kid and my partner. I have been on it for around 3 weeks now. I do not have constipation or nausea or any of the other side effects that you mentioned just the headaches and mood swings. thank you for your help anyway.
The swelling has the potential to be life threatening, it may cause congestive heart failure as listed by the FDA, so the doctor must take her off of a medication that's causing it.
Your side effects, however, as just an annoyance and will usually go away after about 4 to 6 weeks, once your body gets used to the medication, thus your doctor probably wants you to give it a fair try, before switching to something else.
Are there any other questions or concerns?
Yes. She upped my dose of oxy content from 15 milligrams twice a day to 30 milligrams twice a day. I have only noticed a slight difference as far as pain wise. I'm still having the mood swings and suicidal thoughts. She told me to try it for 10 more days and that if I did not feel it was working like it should that she would switch me over to morphine. What do you think about that? Do you think that is a good thing or do you think that I should stay on the oxy content by then it will have been the six weeks that you had said to wait for the side effects to subside. Any advice or help would be greatly appreciated, as yet the side effects have not subsided. And I only feel a slight difference in my pain management.
