FDA instructions say that they should be mixed with some undesirable substances, such as wet, used coffee grounds, or damp, dirty kitty litter, placed in a sealed container, then disposed of with your normal garbage.
Alternatively, you can also take them to your pharmacy and they will dispose of them for you.
This is a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation.
