I would switch doctors and file an complaint to the advocate of the hospital, I take Percocet 5/325 6x a day for breakthrough with 3 methadone 10mg 3x a day and i'm still in pain, I'm a vet and my parachute failed and I came in or at around 70- 80 mph, bounced off the ground 3 x, 24/7 back pain, elbow pain , knee pain, I can't get anything stronger, unless I pay for it

Talk to your Dr. try to get the Fentanyl 100mcg every 72hrs and Oxycodone 30mg ever 6hrs for breakthrough hope that helps

I have been on Oxy 60 three times a day. However, I've taken the drug for almost 15 years. Since they have changed it I no longer get the pain relief I did with the old OC's. It seems so unfair to the people who suffer with every breath to change a pill just because people are abusing it. I'm wondering if I should go to the opana ER? I'm looking up sites to see how people think it works. I have had several spine surgeries and are looking at many more in months ahead I'd love to know what would help me more with this pain.

I totally agree with what you said. My entire back is nearly plated, and my hip is due to be replaced in 3 weeks. My pain management center stopped prescribing my OxyContin due to fear from FDA citations from ppl snorting it and abusing it, Ppl with sever chronic pain are made to suffer from stupid addicts and test are done one people with little or no tolerance. One of the main concerns I agree with is nothing lasts 12 hrs. 6 at most. ER's tend to spike up and down and you have no control over when. (So for example... Taking a walk with your grandchild . Then BOOM. SEVERE PAIN. 30 minutes later. You can resume. )

I have experienced pain for about 10-12 years now from a severe buildup of kidney stones, urinary infections, occlusions, surgeries to remove stones, and stones that block and cause massive infections throughout my entire urinary system. I started with 5mg Vicadin and after 2-3 yrs worked my way up to taking 10mg Norco. That progressed into 2 Norco at a time every 4-6 hours. This of course is highly toxic. I finally found a good doctor that cares about my pain, but his hands are tied when it comes to giving me an amount of pain relief that is substantially better. However, he did prescribe me 6 Norco per day and started me on 40mg Oxycontin CR. After 6 months I found that they certainly did not last the twelve hours they were meant to. I was then moved to taking three 60mg Oxycontin CR per day with the 6 Norco per day. Again after several months I found the effects tapering. The amount of pain I experience seems to grow due to hyper-sensitivity. My doctor switched my Oxycontin to Opana 40mg twice a day. It did almost nothing for me. I was in bed pretty much everyday. I have an appointment tomorrow and plan to ask to be switched back to my other regiment and eat the excess pain. Any suggestions from anyone who considers Opana ineffective are extremely welcomed. So far I have read everyone prefers Opana to Oxycontin, but sadly I was not one of those people.

I'm finding the opana (if I take it 2-3 hrs before the 12 hrs are up).. Keeps the pain manageable but still need the 10.325 oxycodones 4xs for break thru pain. I've come to the conclusion that I'll never be "pain free" or wake up feeling good. ... Just getting older day by day. Don't lift... Don't bend... Don't twist... Sit gently.. Get up slowly. 1day at a time. Good luck and GOD BLESS!

Why would you do that? Are you trying to kill yourself? You realize that by snorting the compound you're in fact immediately releasing it into your CN and Respiratory Systems a number of things can and will happen 1. You could DIE! , 2. If Opioid tolerant (You) the Compound will have a shorter life (a snorted pill that should've work 6-8 hrs. taken orally is only working for 3 hrs. then 2 hrs. then 1hr. then NOT AT ALL!) 3. WITHDRAWAL Symptoms Unbearable Flu Like Symptoms, Diarrhea, Depression, Anxiety, Paranoia, Thoughts of Suicide (on some patients), Insomnia for days, Cramps, much like the ones experienced by Heroin addicts; In short the juice is NOT worth the squeeze. Please don't ever do that what you're describing is abusing the medication and I'm sure if they raise the potency you'll do the same and it may be the last time it happens, Don't play with your life like that I'm sure you have a family that needs you alive and well NOT in Rehab, Hospital or Cemetery. Wish you the Best!

I agree 100% anyone with real chronic pain that takes Oxycontin knows they do not last 12 hours- no way. They last between 6-8 hours 8 hours max. Also since they changed the formula for Oxy 40s to stop the a users they definitely screwed it up. It is making people sick, I am experiencing query, disorientation, dizzy and mildly nauseated. It's almost like the supposed extended release, releases all at once- hence the queezy disorientation feeling that I am now experiencing, it takes about 4-6 hours to feel normal again. Interestingly I also take 30mg Oxys as well with the new formula that's supposed to stop the abusers but they work like they are supposed to and I don't experience that queezy feeling like the 40s give me. Something is wrong with the 40s. Hope no one gets hurt. I hate that there are abusers out there that just make it difficult for people who have real chronic pain. So if it makes them feel sick when misusing their meds... Then good. Hope they can figure out what is wrong with the 40s They will start paying attention when their sales plummet. I am switching over to all 30s or maybe replace the 40s wit 2-20s. I am quitting the 40s I give it about 1 year before they start experiencing a drop in 40 sales and perscriptions.

I have been on 120mg of Oxy IR (20mg x 6/day) and 5MG Percocet in the AM with my first dose. My doctor gave me a choice to switch to something that works all day instead of taking a pill every 3-4 hours and he switched me to Opana ER. They have the new "crush proof" formulation. He gave me 2 x 20mg ER to see how I reacted. I did not have any negative reactions, but they do not last 12 hours and that was not working so he went ahead and bumped me up to 40mg x 2/day. So far it seems to be working. The pain management is working well. I dont feel drowsy or itchy or anything which is good. He is going to give me some breakthrough meds because the ER's do take quite a while to kick in. Maybe 2 x 5mg Opana IR per day. I think that would be perfect because then I would get the immediate relief and the ER's will last all day. Fortunately my insurance pays for it and I have a copay card so its only $15.00 per script. Otherwise there is no way I could afford these meds.

If you've been abusing that much Oxy you'll eventually have to get in a Suboxone program or your brain will never produce the proper endorphins. Then, you'll be suicidal for life.

I've been taking 30 mg oxycodone 6x a day the immediate release pills. It worked but for a short time and 3 hours later had to take another but was in pain before that three hours was up. I've had two back surgeries and tons of hardware put in. After the second surgery I feel ten times worse and in chronic pain all the time. So doc switched me to 60 mg oxycontin and 30mg IR oxy for break thru and the oxycontin gives me nausea, headaches, constipation more than ever and the oxycontin doesn't work well whatsoever. I switched from that to 40mg oxymorphone 2x a day with four 15mg oxy IR for breakthrough and found that I was going thru withdraw from oxy decrease so I went back three days later requesting to go back to the oxy IR and oxycontin. I regret it so bad because now I'm stuck in miserable pain and can't go back for three months. I'm wanting to switch back to the oxymorphone generic opana and the four 15 mg for breakthrough but I'm afraid to ask before my next refill which is in 18 days. My doc overbooks people and seems like they don't care but get aggregated when I have legit problems I hope they don't deny me because I have a family and two step children to take care of and lately I don't want to get up out the bed and face the long miserable painful days. Any advice would be appreciated from somebody who has been thru similar issues. Thanks

I have been battling lower back pain for 15 years. I had surgery in 2000 (fusion). It failed and i had it re-done in 2012. I have been a patient at a pain clinic for 2 years. I take 1-2 Norco 10mg (Vicodin without so much tylenol in it.) up to 5 a day. (Always seem to need more. I usually run out, but the w/d aren't as bad as other more potent medicines which is an advantage. Once I get refilled, it works ok, but my tolerance always seems to kick in and they stop working 1 week into the month. I just switched from the OP 10mg which I swear is a placebo and they work pretty good. I like not feeling high from these medications but sometimes it just affects me differently. I was on OC 20's in 2000 for 4 months and was seeing ghosts and having real trouble when I stopped taking them. Physically Ill!!! I got through that and feel I have found a balance between pain and meds that won't take me over. Bottom line is I need to be more fit and do some SERIOUS physical therapy. Taking a pill is easy, but they make us lazy and complacent. By the time you sober up from them you see everything clearer and realize they are sneaky in how they affect you.

Sorry man thought u commented on my post until I saw above how the junkie was complaining and abusing his meds. This page is confusing sometimes I'm new to it. I hate people like that they ruin everything and anything and upset me alot when they talk about how they abuse meds or whatever and they don't even need it.

Hey Nathan... I thought the same thing... That someone replied to my original post asking for the difference between Opana , Exalgo and OxyContin . But It seems this site is more for abusers than actual ppl in severe pain due to multiple surgeries. I've 8 plates in my back. C_4/5,5/6,67 L-3 thru S-1 . Two ruptured still C-2/3 +3/4 that are inoperable and cause problems swallowing, breathing and turning my head. T-1 is buldged really bad. Just had R shoulder 12/18/12 operated on and R hip replaced 7/8/13 due to degenerative bone disease. My bones are very fragile and I also fell in 09 and suffered a sacral fracture which still hurts as it was never reset and healed badly. So I can say I feel your pain! Right now I'm on opana 30 12 hr 2xs a day with oxycodone 10.325 4xs for breah thru. As well as Valium for muscle spams due to cord compression. I HATE those who abuse and make it hard for us legit ppl in pain to get the proper meds we need to "move". This forum is a joke. I only valu the opinions if the PHDs who check in here and there - but they still only address the junkies. Good luck Bro. Keep your chin up and suck up the pain.... Don't do anything to hurt yourself further. Life is over as we knew it and a more regulated and revised lifestyle should be implemented. Exercise reg, eat right, take vitamins and try to keep your spirits up..... Rainy days SUCK. Don't lift anything over 5-10 lbs. and realize that the OxyContin worked the best but the junkies ruined it for us. Ps : don't do that lyrica bs. !!! I swelled up like a balloon and gaIned 20 lbs in 1 week! Couldn't pee, poo or sleep!
Good luck . Ali
