No Availibility Of Drixoral (Page 3)
UpdatedI purchase my Drixoral at Costco and have ebeen told they are no longer able to get it, because it is be reformulated, is this correct
I am curious as to why drugs like Allerdur, Tanafed, and Duotan, which contain the same chemicals as Drixoral, require a prescription.
I have been taking Drixoral for 15 years and know what everyone is going through. Today I bought some Zyrtec-D and I seem to feel alot better. All of those nauseating symptoms went away. Has anyone else tried it and if so....did it work for them?
I am in the same boat with my GF, she only ever responded to Drixoral after trying all the prescription drugs, she finally went with drixoral, and we have found nothing that works as well.
I am avid weighlifter and sports buff and I seen this a few years ago with all the products that contained ephedrine, because of a few abusers they pulled it, then put it back, and then some people were making drugs of it. Finally one government officials son OD'd taking like 4 times the dose in 90 degree heat, in football practice. Shortly after the death they pulled all of it in Ohio, so people were driving over to PA and Indiana to buy it, finally they put it back on the shelf, but then with the increase meth heads titrating anything to get high they pulled , at least that is what they say.
I have come to realize if you look up any natural vitamin or substance that has any performance enhance effects, be it muscle or weight loss the regulators are pressured to pull the product and reclassify it as a drug to make more money. I believe this is what is going to happen to Drixoral, it may resurface, but it won't be the same.
Really frustrating, going into allergy season my GF will have no relief, couple that with migraines she gets and it won't be a fun summer at all.
You can get it from Canada, I just ordered 3 boxes of it and had a buddy order 3 more for me since you can only order 3 at a time. Just do a search. You will find it..
My doctor told me to try Mucinex D which contains 1200 mg guaifenesin and 120 mg pseudoephedrine HCI extended-release bi-layer tablets, it's $25 for
24 12-hr pills. I've only tried taking it once & it's TERRIBLE jittery etc & head feels like a balloon - just wanted to warn everyone!
I just ordered 60 tablets from a Canadian OTC website, it's $13 for 20 plus $10 shipping & they do NOT need copy of your license etc.; shipping can take up to 3 weeks but it's worth it to me.
Isn't it about time we all started inundating the manufacturer with phone calls, faxes, and e-mails complaining about the misery and hardship they are putting all of us thru with this one year moratorium on manufacture of Drixoral? Those of us who have been faithful patients using this medication for 20-30 Plus years in order to be able to function--instead of being laid up in bed unable to work--should have invested enough money in this company to have our voices heard.Without a doubt-for some of us this is the best and only effective medication on the market for our allergies. We were better off when a prescription was required to get it. At least then, we knew the Pharmacy would have it in stock. Why do we who suffer from chronic allergy and sinus diseases have to be punished for the lawless illegal drug dealing and using scum of the world? There truly is no justice in THIS world!!
Since I can't find Drixoral, I've tried Claritin-D and Zyrtec-D. Both work quite well for my nose, but my eyes are exceptionally dry, especially in the evening (I wear contacts). I don't remember this with Drixoral, so I'd like to find ONE box just to make sure. FWIW, Zyrtec-D seems to be a bit easier on my dry eyes than Claritin-D.
I'm also feeling a bit of the motion sickness other people are describing. When I take my son to the playground, some of the rides set off the motion sickness easier than I think they should, but normal everyday activity is definitely bearable.
I've been reading all of your posts with great interest. I've also been using Drixoral for close to 20 years. My parents and sister had sinus problems when I was growing up. However, I never had any sinus problems until I got married. My dad introduced me to Drixoral and the rest is history. I don't take it every day, but I do take it several times a week.
I have terrible sinus drainage that makes me so sick on my stomach. It also makes me extremely dizzy. Drixoral took care of all of that. Last night, I felt so bad that I just laid on my bed and cried.
I called the company, too, and am very upset that it may be more than a year before Drixoral is back on the market in this country. I have tried numerous other products in the past, and nothing helps me. What in the world am I gonna do?
From researching online, Zyrtec-D seems like it might be a good alternative, but at over $30 a bottle, I'm not going to try it just to find out it doesn't work. I purchased some Dramamine yesterday to help with the motion sickness I tend to get. It makes me feel horrible, but at least it helps me not feel sick.
I have taken Drixoral for over 20yrs. I've been without it for over a month and have felt terrible since. A pharmacist recommended 1 12hr pill of Sudafed and 1 adult serving of children's Dimatapp every 4hrs. That' the closest I've found. It's hit or miss though. Actually switched to Nyquil for really bad nights. I'm ordering from Canada now that I see everyone else is getting Drixoral there. Thanks for your help.
Have you tried ordering from a Canadian pharmacy? I called one today and they said that they have it in stock. Of course it's more expensive than Costco or Walmart but it's worth it!
Ohh noooooooooooo, I need my Drixoral. Like many of you I will get extremely bad headaches. I have been taking this medication for at least 25 yrs.
This is long but I'm going to address a few comments I read.
I've taken Drixoral off and on for what might be close to 30 years. Many years ago, I used to have to take allergy shots and it was about that long ago as I recall that I discovered Drixoral. It might have even been an RX when I first discovered it.
Anyway, it is a great drug and the only one that works for my husband now. He's very upset it's gone. It was recommended to him another time when Drixoral was MIA to use the combo of Pseudoephedrine and Cholrpheniramine and that helps a little bit. Coincidently I'd found that Chlorotabs (Walmart brand that is like 100 for $3) over the counter usually had worked for me and that is Cholrpheniramine., so he just had to add the Pseudoephedrine to it.
For the most part I've not had to continually take meds. for allergies and the Chlortabs worked when needed, but lately I've had to take something regularly for itchy eyes or clogged sinus. The Chlortabs seemed to stop working. I've found over the years every once in awhile I have to switch meds and then can change back. So I was using old reliable Drixoral.
Recently the last time in recent past when Drixoral wasn't available, I tried Zyrtec D, which was now available without RX, and love it. I'd used it when I'd had sinus infections when it was an RX off and on over the years, and knew it was effective. Since trying it I now personally prefer it to Drixoral.
And please note that right after it was released, probably within a month or so, the price not only dropped significantly but you can buy a generic for the same price as Drixoral. I've purchaed it from $10-18. And brand for $17.33 to be exact.
I saw someone mentioned dry eyes and being concerned about what to take. I have dry eyes, also TED (Thyroid Eye Disease) making dryness a regular thing for me, and Zyrtec D hasn't increased the dryness at all in my case and I wear contacts without problems even while on it.
Oh, and FYI, we have to sign for this stuff due to people were and probably still are making Crystal-meth from Pseudoephedrine, hence the limits on what you can buy.
Good luck with finding something that works! We can only hope someone comes up with a Drixoral duplicate for those that require it.
I spoke to the manufacturer and they said they are in the process of moving the manufacturing plant and will not have the new one open until next year; but they will remake the drug at the new plant with the same exact ingredients. If you call the Schering-Plough, you can give them your name and address to be notified when the new supply will be ready.
This shortage is completely bogus. Schering-Plough had plenty of time to arrange for an alternate manufacturing source.
Folks, the cynical people running this drug company have a hidden agenda, and your well-being is not a part of it.
Drixoral was limited and then removed because it has the pseudoephedrine in it. That can be used to make methamphetamine. Of course the druggers simply go online and purchase it from out of the country. But that folks is our glorious guvment in action... PROTECTING us. God Help Us be safe from them. I think we need to get a resolution limiting how long someone can be in Congress/Legislature. After all- a President can only serve two terms... why not limit them- Congressional members that is. They have done much more damage than any President we've ever had.
The only thing these mfg's respond to is money. Boycott every product they make, ask your doctor to find drugs made by any other company, They wish to play games with the product then we must trump them with a total boycott of all their products. I too am a long time user of Drixoral and have not yet found a subsitute, but I will put up with the discomfort before I ever buy another of their products.
I have been using ddrixoral round the clock for at least 25 years. Since December, I have been experiencing incredible fatigue problems. When drixoral went off the market I tried psudoephrine and zyrtec, not only does it work pretty well....my fatigue is gone! in one week! I am thinking maybe they did have some formultation problems and the factory moving story is a fake, what do you think?
First of all the limit on cold medicine is ridiculous. I thought we were innocent until proven guilty in this country? But I am considered to be a drug dealer if I want to buy enough meds to breathe day AND night for a month? Then with the manufacturer's BS... I bet it would be easier for me to get crystal meth than Drixoral right now!
Thanks to those who posted about ordering from Canada - I just placed my order. Expensive, but better than not having it. In spring of this year, I pulled a muscle in my chest from sneezing so hard when I ran out of Drixoral.
Boycotts, unless done on a massive scale, generally don't work. Your act of protest will make you feel good, but the pharmaceutical companies can outlast you. They have too many products that are perceived as critical by too many customers.
What amazes me is the number of people who called the company asking for information. Did they really think they would get anything but lies? How naive. This is a well-planned scheme designed to herd the sheep.
Stop whining and get aggressive. Do to them what they are doing to us. Bombard the arrogant operatives of that company with angry e-mails. Post to other blog sites with the same message. Let the big retailers like Target, Costco, and Sam's Club of your dissatisfaction. They have huge leverage on the drug companies.
No company, regardless of size, likes bad publicity. We consumers are now empowered by the Internet to turn their game-playing into a public relations disaster.
