I have been on nitrofur for about two months now and will stay on it for as long as I need to my doctor says for UTI's that will not go away. It has kept me from getting a UTI which I would usually get twice a month. I love the drug and had little stomach cramping the first few times I took it but now I dont have any side effects from taking Nitrofur.

Took this medication and became VERY sick, almost had to go to Emergency Room, severe flu like feeling. Cold sweats, shaking, couldn't even touch my skin. Extreme chest/lung pain.

I was prescribed Nitrofur for a UTI 3 days ago and I think it has cleared up my UTI. The problem is that I also have kidney stones so I am not feeling too great inspite of the medication. I take the medication as prescribed, twice a day. I get neaseated, very weak and tired feeling, aches, shakey and feel like I am running a fever. I also have not had a bowel movement since starting this medication. I feel like it just has too many side effects and I have a doctor's appointment this afternoon to change my plan of treatment.

I am allergic to both sulfa drugs and penicillin, and thus was prescribed Nitrofur for a severe UTI about five days ago. It had been going fine, aside from horrid fatigue, until this evening when I suddenly have an aching headache, terrible nausea, and the chills. I am also feeling mildly depressed and am finding it difficult to concentrate or stay motivated. This, however, I am not certain about being a side-effect, seeing as I am not only close to period, but also taking Welbutrin for anxiety/panic and depressive mood disorder. It has done a wonderful job of clearing up my infection, though, along with three days of methyline blue for pain. But with five more days to go, I certainly hope these side-effects stop soon.

This is day two of nitrofur and i have only had mild sleepiness. I kinda feel like im not on top of my game but attribute it making me a little tired. I will post if i have any further symptoms. I know this medication is what they prescribe pregnant women, so it's deemed a pretty safe drug.

I was prescribed Nitrofur for a UTI this past Monday. I'm on day 3 of the antibiotic and the only side affect I seem to have is green urine. It's not yellow-brown, it's like the green easter egg dyes dropped in a toilet bowl so it's more heavily diluted. Other than that, I'm tired but have had a very busy week w/very late nights the last 3 days, so I didn't blame that on the medication. Now w/all the other accounts I'm wondering if it wasn't just my being up late. As for the UTI, it seems to be healing so I'll finish the medication.

I started taking this medication 2 days ago as well for a UTI, no side effects yet but the medication seems a tad bit slow in working but is working. We'll see after I'm completely done taking it.

I was prescribed this drug for a UTI and the gyno said take it or not. Was tired of feeling I had to pee every 5 minutes so I took one does. SEVERE nausea and diaherra almost immediately. I feel like death warmed over. I won't be taking another dose!!!

ive been taking nitrofur and when i asked about it they said they usally only perscribe it to someone who is pregnant or allergic to the other antibiotics. when i looked it up the side effects and they were upset stomach diarrhea loss of appetite nausea dizziness and headache during the first few days and if its gets worse then you should talk to your doctor.

I was prescribed Nitrofur 4 years ago after a bladder surgery. Suppose to take it every day.
I have developed gastro problems. inflamation of the colon and narrowing DXed recently after a ct. I now have to have a colonoscopy.
I had a colonoscopy 4 years ago and everything was normal. I think it is the Nitrofur causing the problems. Some days it bothers my stomach even when taking with food. There must be a substitute I can take.

I had a UTI and took nitrofur and winded up in the ER after 2nd day of treatment.. same thing happen with Batrim... i had side affects that cut my air off, swelled my throat, make my throat very red and sore.i couldnt breath.. got very light headed thought i was going to pass out...DR said i was allergic to them antibotics.. now i dont know what i can take to cure the UTI.. all the medication they give for UTI's I cant take.. what does a person do to get rid of it... i have also drunk cranberry juice and everything i know to do... im scred this is going to cause me more harm to my organs.. any advise?

my girlfriend took this for her UTI today about 9 hrs after second pill her throat closed and she could not breathe for about 3 minutes passing out off and on, never had anything like this happen before. before the attack she had nausea was light headed and very hot. this is not medicine it's poison how is this even legal.

Prescribed Nitrofur and Phenazopryid 200mg for UTI because I can't take Penicillin. I've used Nitrofur a year before and each time it clears up the UTI quickly but I experience a lot of motion sickness, my stomach's upset and I have vertigo part of the time. Not a very friendly drug.

I was prescribed Nitrofur for UTI. I had mild reactions to this drug. I too am aliergic to most drugs. I found that taking this pill with milk and then on empty stomach at 6:30am and 6:30 pm worked best for me. I then would wait for about a hour and eat and it worked ok. Some side effects were lite dizzyness, tired legs and yawned most of the time. Had a lot of energy.I was bound to finish these pills and be rid of the infection and I did.
One thing I noticed that after I finished was I seemed to be swollowing some of my food whole now. Before I had problems in getting it to go down I had to slowly swollow, it was like a tightness in my throat to only let so much go down at one time.

On 11-12-2011 I had a urinary infection. I went to the clinic for treatment and was proscribed 100 mg of mitrofur mono to be taken twice a day for 7 days. On the 6th day I felt bumps on the back of my upper legs. When I woke up on the 7th day I had a brown rash on the back of both upper legs. That same night when I sat down for any length of time I got very uncomfortable. The annoying feeling of pressure as if I was setting on a row of pencils. By the 9th day I felt tingling along with the pressure. Sleep was very difficult. I went back to the doctor. Pictures were taken along with here comment that she doubted if it was the medication and suggested that I see a specialist, which I did not for lack of insurance. I did start applying a MSM cream over several weeks which took care of 90% of the symptoms.
