New To Pain Management Worried About Ua
UpdatedGiven all the new laws and scrutiny doctors are under these days, it seems almost impossible to get any type of help when one suffers from any of these key buzz words. "Pain, anxiety, sleep disorders". Mention any of these Buzz words during an exam with your doctor, and he or she immediately goes from a caring offense to unconcerned defense. It's sad but true.
After 14 months after my accident (I won't get into the hell I've been thru trying to get help or anyone to believe me) I'm finally scheduled to meet with a spine doctor on Wed to hopefully stop the suffering. My medical condition is a herniated disk L4-L-5. Part of the disk has lodged behind the spine pushing on the nerve root causing unbelievable pain down my right buttocks and down the right leg. My leg goes completely numb at times and has caused me to fall on a few occasions. I also have a condition known has degeneration in the L5 s1 and from a semi crash in 1996 still suffer from major muscle spasms and back pain in my cervical area. The past year has truly been living hell. Each surgeon I have seen has suggested surgery immediately. Both stated I've lost 30% of the strength in my right leg and I'm the early stages of developing drop foot.. so I have all the MRIs, CAT scans, and physicians that all agree I'm in pain and a lot of it. Yet no one has wanted to help me with medications so that I could get the pain under control to attempt other avenues like PT.
This week I will meet my pain management doctor but what I'm worried about it just in the last two days I've also found to kidney stones so my pain has become unbearable and still no help for medications from my doctor since PM is close at hand. So in order to some what function I have against better judgement self medicated with the only thing I could get. Heroin but I'm told its fentanyl and not heroin. I've never used it until now and truly only because I couldn't take the pain any longer..
Can someone please tell me how long I'll need to stop doing this stuff prior to my appointment. And if it does show up what will it show up as? I've read so many post here and I'm sorry but I can't feel sorry for people who are out using this stuff recreationally and worried about probation or job ua. Recreational use of these meds have made a lot of good people suffer. It doesn't seem fair that the medical community can't put me through what they have put me through only because they say there's a chance I may sell my medication or may let it slide to the wrong hands. I just want the pain to stop. I want to walk my daughter around 1 festival, I want to work and live like I did prior to this accident. I realize my choice to use a powerful street narcotic wasn't the best choice. But what can a man do when he just wants to get off the sofa for one afternoon to join the rest of the family during an outing? Your help and advise is greatly appreciated for my upcoming UA with what I hope is the doctor who can give me life again.
