Need New Doctor In Maine For My Alprazolam. My Doctor Is Retiring.

I am in Maine. My doctor is retiring and I need to find a new one. Many doctors are reluctant to prescribe alprazolam for long periods of time. I have had anxiety most of my life and then it turned into full blown panic attacks. After many other medications and alternative treatments my doctor eventually put me on alprazolam. That turned out to be the only medication that worked. I have been with my doctor for a little over six years and now he is retiring. I am currently on 4 MSG of Alprazolam and he would give me five refills. The most refills he could give me by law. Now it seems many doctors do not want to keep me on these meds even though they work. I do not abuse them or fill early and only go to one pharmacy. Does anyone in Maine have a doctor they know tha would be willing to help me. I do not want to look like a drug seeker or be labeled as a doctor shopper. I take this medication because I need them not because I want them.

Thanks, still no luck here. I think I am just going to give up trying.
@Anxious- I am also in the Bangor, ME area and am currently having the same problem. This is a hard transition to go through, all while trying to stay stable and healthy all at the same time. I myself haven't had much luck besides a referral to an a**hole doctor that wanted to completely change my regimen, which has been the same for 15 years. Oh, and also a couple months of waiting to get into see any new doc because they ALL have waiting lists.... If I have any luck on my journey, I will give you as much knowledge or advice that I can because I know how difficult this situation can be. And if you have any luck, please do the same for me and keep me posted:)
Hello, Anxious! How are you?
Due to the regulations that were put in place last year, if you require such a medication on a long-term ongoing basis, you'll need to see a specialist, now.
The best thing to do would be to get yourself set up with a new doctor, make sure they get a full copy of your medical records and then ask them to refer you to the appropriate specialist.
This medication carries the risk of being habit forming and could cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache and irritability.
Can anyone suggest a good doctor in that area?
