My dog needs this medicine every day due to a collapsing trachia. I have been told that it's not being produced anymore. Does anyone know where I can get it???
Thanks!
I need Hycodan for my bronchitis. Having trouble. It's really bad, my chest burns. Can you give any advice please? Thank you, Alex
I just got it for my pom from Hope in rockville, md.
Dont you have to have a prescription from your vet to get any of these medicins? So why dont you just get it fro. Your vet?
I agree, try the smaller pharmacies. I tried all the local major pharmacies for Tussigon for my Bassett Hound with inoperable lung cancer with no luck. But a really small private pharmacy close to my house had it.
I have been unable to get Hycodan in tablet form. My vet prescribed Hydromet Syrup which is the same as Hycodan. However I have a problem in that my Sheltie will not go near it. I can't give it to him in any form. He is on a strict diet and so I can't give to him in his food as it is dry food. Anyone have any ideas on how I can solve this problem.
I was able to get hycodan at the BestPetRX in Manhattan and it was refilled under the tussigon name. My yorky is on other medications also prescribed for humans and I am in the process of finding Canadian pharmacies that refill prescriptions at a much lower price. I have found it advisable to research the pharmacy before placing an order since some are scams.
NEVER use Roadrunner....disorganized, and person named Brandon who is apparently a pharmacist is just a rude little creep.
My yorkshire terrier had a collapsed trachea and a stent implant at the Animal Medical Center in New York City and the operation was a success. She was prescribed hycodan as a cough suppressant. She later developed pneumonia and the hycodan dosage was increased, which resulted in my needing a refill. I was able to get a refill prescription from my local vet but discovered by calling all over the city that it is a controlled substance and is not readily available at pharmacies such as Duane Reade. I was able to get a refill at the Animal Medical Center. I would recommend asking your vet where to get the prescription refilled.
A side note- my yorky does not like the taste of hycodan and I am running out of options for giving her the pill. She has rejected the usual peanut butter, rare roast beef, etc. I will request the liquid form on a new refill. I find it easier to administer than the pill form.
My dog was put on torbutol but where I live no pharmacy haves it the doctor says to give her robtussin dm but my dog does not like syrup had perscription for hydrocodone tablets 3 mg no drugstore makes it please someone help me my baby needs this drug daily to live I live on Long Island in New York state
Tussigon is slowly being released back onto the market. And to Dan: (FIND A COMPOUNDING PHARMACY. THEY CAN MAKE ANYTHING! IF YOU CAN'T FIND ONE IN YOUR AREA, WE'LL SHIP TO YOU. VILLAGE COMPOUNDING PHARMACY) I've worked in pharmacy for 16 years. Compounding pharmacies are great, but they can't make ANYTHING. Only certain things can be legally obtained to mix. I don't know if this is still the case, or if it was anywhere else but here in my state, there was a new law that was passed that restricted compounding pharmacies from combining controlled substances that were already available. Ex: Hycodan- Hydrocodone/Hydromorphine. It's suppose to cut down on severe errors. (See People v. Stewart) I don't know if that is still the case. Just wanted to give you a heads up!
Hycodan is a brand name for hydrocodone bitartrate plus homatropine methybromide. Several manufacturers make generic versions (Actavis, Hi Tech Pharma, Morton Grove, King Pharms). It is available as 1.5 mg and 5 mg tablets and syrup. All human drugs containing hydrocodone require a prescription as hydrocodone is an addictive drug.
My Sheltie needed med. for her cough etc. My vet prescribed tussigon. I looked it up and found it is or like hydrocodan. My vet had it on hand. It sounded like she could get it anytime, but I presume it is a prescription.
My dog also has larengeal paralasys. My vet perscribed Tussagon. Giant Eagle pharm. carries this.Good luck, hope this helps.
Yes, except when you call Village Pharmacy that act like you have three heads and asking for compounding is some sort of who's on first conversational opportunity. Yes, a few of the ONLINE PHARMACYS still have Tussigon by some miracle - for how long I don't know.

My maltipoo is also suffering with collapsing trachea and I am unable to find Tussigon either. I have switched to Torbutrol, which is more expensive, but it does suppress his cough too. You may want to try that. I am going to check the smaller pharmacies too for Tussigon.
years ago I was prescribed Hycodan cough syrup for chronic infectious bronchitis (I'm a human)
Try roadrunner pharmacy in phoenix az the can compond it for you
A great majority of drugs used in veterinary medicine are also used in human medicine, it is just dosages that vary between species.
Tussigon (hycodan) has been unavailable in both human and veterinary pharmacies until recently. Production has been started again though, and the medication is slowly becoming available again, although it seems just in human hospitals first, and perhaps a few of the online pharmacies.
And to Adam (You people do konw that hydrocodone and hycodan are just people drugs right... its called vicodin and its a narcotic pain reliever....you do know this right....?? )
Vicodin is a brand name for a drug combination of hydrocodone and paracetamol (acetaminophen). It is not the same thing as tussigon. Tussigon is the brand name of a combination of homatropine and hydrocodone. The combinations of drugs and the dosages make these medication different from one another, and are not usually used for the same reason. Tussigon is used as a cough suppressent while vicodin is usually used as a pain reliever (though not in animals, it is not usually effective for them), although it does have some anti-tussive (cough suppressing) properties.
