Naproxen Interactions With Diphenhydramine Hcl

I take 325 mg of naproxen 2x a day for knee pain. Can I take 1-2 capsules of 25 mg of Diphenhydramine for allergy relief? Just for one evening. Not planning on taking any more.

Yes, you can take them together, as long as your doctor approves.

If you check the ingredients of some of the pain relief PM medications you'll find that they actually use Diphenhydramine in most of them to help people sleep.

With that noted, the Naproxen may potentiate the drowsiness side effect and it could knock you out for the day, so make sure you won't be driving, or operating any heavy machinery. Other side effects may include dizziness, dry mouth and blurred vision.

The FDA classifies Naproxen as a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory that's used to treat pain, fever and swelling. Its typical side effects may possibly include nausea, dizziness, headache, increased risk of bleeding and stomach irritation.
